Had we not drafted him he would have still been drafted , possibly in the first round...

As disappointing as he has been he is still very young and had plenty of injury problems..
Still haven't completely given up hope..
HB,

Don't talk sense.  BTW:  Most of the over the top, emotive BS about one player was similarly aimed at Daniel Jackson and Luke McGuane as late as half way through the just completed season.  Patience and understanding teh development process is in short supply on Internet forums.

I think the issue is enough development coaches.  JON has the tools.  He just needs fitness and confidence.  He is only 19 after all.

Geelong were just too big, too strong, too experienced and too good today.
What a year from Coburg though.  :)
Wooden spoon favourites that made it to the GF. Well done on a fantastic year that was way, way above expectations.  :thumbsup
That's true FF. Given Coburg came from rock bottom a couple of years ago, to end up finishing senior runners-up and ressie premiers is a terrific effort by all those at Coburg. It was just such a disappointing day. We just never got going (or weren't allowed to) and Nat Caruso going off seem to coincide with the floodgates opening for Geelong.

If McGuane and Jacko were first round picks they too would still be copping it. Their footskills skill need work especially Luke. As mid-late draft picks the scrutiny is less than if they went top 10 like JON. HB is correct to say another club would have taken him in the first round as he was rated in most phantom drafts in the top 20 so others rated JON highly too. However IMO a top 10 pick shouldn't have so many flaws that need working on as JON does. Footskills/kicking technique being the first thing you judge a youngster by. The modern game requires elite footskills. Alright skill doesn't cut it. If we truly don't want to accept mediocrity anymore then that's where we need to demand the bar be set.

I still think that a lot of JON's problems arise from lack of confidence, lack of self-belief, and inability to handle pressure. These things can change, sometimes very quickly, especially in one so young.

Coburg played poorly in difficult conditions. They are a very young side, and they cracked under the pressure of the "big occasion". The big difference between the teams was the level of experience, and the fact that they had 18 AFL players versus 11. That was too much of an advantage.

As FF said, what a great year for Coburg, way ahead of expectations. They should be congratulated.

Struth that's 2 scary posts right there - far too much logic  :gobdrop

Yes it was a disppointing day and a number of blokes didn't play well but kudos to them for getting there.

Coburg has had a sensational season and so have the RFC kids who have played there. They will learn from yesterday.

It was a bad day - sadly it was on the biggest day of the year but it happens.

Geelong were just too big, too strong, too experienced and too good today.

Exactly FF & MT.

Yes Nat's injury was a shocker - like Coburg's day. Saw him at the after match - compound dislocation - the bone went through the skin = OUCH Courageous kid Nat Caruso, ditto his brother Fort :thumbsup

Andy Collins has signed a 3-year deal with West Adelaide.

SEN spoke to Andy today and he told them that he would recommend the Casey Scorpion coach (I think it's Peter Banfield) as an ideal replacement for him at Coburg.

The Werribee Banner is saying AFL Victoria will soon announce that next year's VFL Grand Final will be held at the Telstra Dome, on the Friday night before the AFL Grand Final.
