Apparently confirmed on SEN. Only 41 years old. RIP  :(
My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.

If the rumours are true, then my sympathies to his family and friends, but not to him. Just another Darren Millane.

Chris apparently had a lot of private issues of late, according to Brad Hardie, and they were worried about him.  Hope he didn't take his own life.

Admired the WC of that era and their great players, and liked Chris a lot.

RIP

Why?  How do you know until you find out the details of what happened?
Pathetic

It'll come out that he was a recreational drug user and it was a drug-related heart attack. I feel for his kids he has left behind.

Mystery surrounds ex-Eagle Mainwaring's death
Scott Spits and Dan Harrison | October 1, 2007 - 12:15PM

The AFL community is in shock after the death of former West Coast Eagles footballer Chris Mainwaring in Perth early today.

Mainwaring, 41, collapsed at his home in the beachside suburb of Cottesloe after midnight and was taken by ambulance to hospital.

West Australian police said they were initially called to a home in Haining Avenue, Cottesloe after receiving a complaint about Mainwaring yelling in the street at 11.25pm last night.

Police said Mainwaring was calm when they arrived and refused help from an ambulance crew.  He was left in the care of a neighbour, and returned to his home without incident.

However, about an hour later, an ambulance was called again to the same address. This time they found Mainwaring unconscious, he was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said they would investigate the death and prepare a report for the coroner.

Mainwaring is survived by his wife, Rani.

im not saying this is the case here, but a common cause of steroid abuse amongst athletes who use steroids during playing careers is death by heart attack , and it seems to happen in the 40's.

in the USA, the ave age for grid iron players was once 40something, most players were dying due to heart attacks in theor 40's cos of steriod abuse.

now im not saying chris abused/used steroids, but if say other WCE players from that era started dying of heart attacks in their 40's, questions must surely be asked.

flo jo is another famous example, died young cos a a heart attack. autopsy showed her heart was nearly twice the size of a mormal sized female heart. a common side effect of steroid abuse.

will be interesting if this death was not caused by "recreational drugs" but rec drugs will be used as the reason to mask and hide other issues.

if all the rmours from that era are correct, chris will not be the only one and teh future will open a can of worms

just food 4 thought
