Richmond vs Geelong in L.A. exhibition game
« on: October 04, 2007, 04:32:40 AM »
Geelong and Richmond have been earmarked to play in the US in January as part of Australia Day celebrations.

Over the next 12 months, eight clubs will have been involved in overseas matches — in Dubai, Los Angeles, a yet-to-be-finalised South African venue and London.

Would have thought San Fran would be a more appropriate venue for Geelong to bend us over.

The only trophy we've won in the past 25 years was from one of these exhibition games. Richo holding up some cup at the Oval after we beat Essendon.

We must be playing this one at Pasadena. I think the surface there is grass and not astroturf  :P.

We also beat Carlton at The Oval in London in 1994 MT

Yeah I find it bizarre to send us against the reigning premiers on an exhibition game when they usually tend to send 2 clubs who have finished fairly close on the ladder.

Two things will come of this
a) Geelong will either still be on a premiership hangover and we will win to give us either some false hope or some real confidence depending on whether your glass is half full or half empty. :thumbsup

b) Geelong will absolutely positively spank the living crap out of us and send us back to the stone age just when we might harbour thoughts of moving on to something better than we have had in the past.  :banghead

ala 95 Prelim or any game b/ween 1986-1995 against them
round 1 2005
round 6 2007. :banghead

The AFL, on top of giving us a crap draw, seem to have dumped us off the OS preseason games as well ::)

Quote
The AFL also looks certain to schedule three overseas pre-season games, including a Collingwood-Adelaide NAB Cup game in Dubai on February 9, a Geelong-Essendon game in Los Angeles over the Australia Day weekend and a game in Johannesburg potentially involving the Western Bulldogs.

it was called the AMP Cup ... and true ... the only "trophy" we have won ... it was also the night before the Bali Bombings ... just hours after ...

does anyone know the scores from that match and the one against Carlton in 1994 ???

I really liked Simon Hart. Pity he didn't make it.
