A Lamb named Lids

Little lamb is no paper tiger

By David Wood

He may not have been the number one draaaaft pick like his namesake, but three month-old sheep Brett Delambio kicks goals in one young boy's mind.

The Euroa lamb is owned by seven-year old Richmond fan Connor Brodie, of Kensington, and was named after former Kyabram junior and Richmond star Brett Deledio.

Connor, who wears Deledio's number three on his Richmond jumper, sought to immortalise the AFL player by naming the lamb after him.

Connor's grandmother Beverly Gall said the lamb was one of two orphans given to her grandchildren.

"Delambio came out of Deledio and everyone thought Brett was a hideous name for a lamb," Mrs Gall said.

Connor said he named the lamb after Deledio because he was a leader at the club, but stressed he was only one of his favourite players.

"He usually doesn't make any mistakes," he said about the Richmond footballer, not the lamb.

Connor explained that he barracked for Richmond because when he was young, he had to choose between his mum's team, Hawthorn, and his dad's beloved Tigers.

Mum Kelly said all three kids had been brainwashed to go for Richmond, with threeyear-old Hannah a big Matthew Richardson fan and one-year-old Charlotte owning her own little Tigers jumper.

Connor goes to Tiges matches about 10 times a year and had his finger on what went wrong on the field this year.

"I think it's because of Richo's kicking," Connor said.

"He's had some stupid kicking."

But Connor reckons they will make the finals next year.

Hannah, though taken by big Richo, named her lamb Lamby.

Mrs Brodie said her husband, 1990 Euroa premiership player Rick, tried to get the kids behind Deledio because Richo was getting a little long in the tooth, but Hannah had her own idea.

"She's a Richo fan," Mrs Brodie said.

"She has just taken to Richo, she just loves him.

"There's something about Richo."

Brett Delambio and Lamby had been living in Kensington, but have retired to the country because Delambio was becoming a bit boisterous and kept escaping into the laneway.

And I still like his logic.

Connor goes to Tiges matches about 10 times a year and had his finger on what went wrong on the field this year.

"I think it's because of Richo's kicking," Connor said.

"He's had some stupid kicking."
