Cubs got ahead of themselves after 2006
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:37:15 PM »
Royal has said a few times in his player review of our cubs returning not in the best shape. Seems a few got ahead of themselves after last year.

Quote
Matty White had a terrific season last year, but again would be disappointed with the year he had. Like a few others he got a bit ahead of himself and did not start the season as fit as he should have been.

Quote
To put it bluntly, after having an outstanding season last year, Dean Polo probably went away and came back ahead of himself. He didn’t achieve the expectations he probably would have liked considering what he did in 2006.

Quote
‘Rainsey’ probably went away after a good season last year and did not come back in as good a shape as he should have. I think he realises that and I’m sure he’ll be a better player next year.

Plus a word of advice for Kingy this pre-season....

Quote
Hopefully Kingy doesn’t get ahead of himself and comes back a in great shape after the break.

I can understand the Eagles getting ahead of themselves, or the Swans, but we finished 9th in 2006??

It must be an inexperience thing and hopefully all of them learn their lesson.

They must all follow Foleys lead at training, not the older brigade.

This is the fault of the coaching staff for not addressing these issues.

It has mentioned some of them didnt present in good shape for the pre-season.

They should have been given extra sessions to get were they should be :banghead

Why is this the fault of the coaching staff?

These players have to take responsibility for their own actions. They have to be self motivated. The coaching staff cannot be expected to follow up on them every day like little children to make sure they follow what ever plan they have been given.

We have to stop making excuses for the players.

Understand the players need to take responsibility of their actions but so do the coaches. Coaches need to implement programs to address deficiencies as well as nurturing players as well and psychologically ingraining their messages to them. It works hand in hand if either party is missing then somewhere along the journey results like the Geelong game and are few others are bound to come and more frequently for that matter.
Brian Royals spin on it may be a sugar coated way to perhaps hide his or Terry's deficiencies on communication. Its called passing the buck or the blame game it happens in white collar industry as well.

I think they both have themselves to blame.

The Cubs for resting on their Laurels of another 9th and the coaching staff perhaps thinking improvement would come easily this year.  :shh

Personally the whole damn club got ahead of itself, now had weeks to go over our season and its time this damn club got its poo together in a hurry because another season like the one just gone will cause all sorts of unrest.

We all know what that entails... >:(

Seems some at the club last year overrated the high-scoring wins in the last month against Carlton, Essendon and Brisbane and ignored the reality check from the Eagles in round 22.

Just as much as the stronger showing in last few weeks this year, false hope.

This club just needs to retrace some history from our successful years and batten down the hatches shut our traps and get down to business of portraying to our supporters that we are a real football club.

Dump the Tuesdays with the Tanned One and get their heads down and asses up and get honest with the poor bastards (supporters and members).

Agree rogerd3. The club needs to shut up until it starts showing some success on-field to talk about. None of this "we're after respect" and alike before the start of the season.

Well surely noone at the club can be under illusions to where we are at after this year. Perversely that might be a bonus

We can only hope so Gracie. The players have no excuses not to train their butts off over summer.

Let's hope trading away pick 19 isn't a quick fix that comes back to bite us either :-\.

I thought some of our players came back in poor shape for the 2006 pre-season? :P

I have heard from a few sources that the ENTIRE CLUB was resting on it's unfounded laurels leading into 07...

WTF is going on down there!?

I am so sick of the spin.

Bust their balls Wallace or yours will be busted!!!!
