The picks that are really gonna be interesting are Melbourne, Doggies and Essenscum.

Especially Melbournes pick4 i mean, whoever they get is gonna be just a good IMO.

I really rate Masten and think he's a genuine footy player sadly i think Melbourne have got him. Such a shame.

True. If we picked on position we'd go for Masten. However the Club doesn't rate him in the top 3. Miller said isn't Masten a bit of an angry boy. Masten also has OP so he could slip a few spots.

Yep. The only reason I had him at 18 - as a potential big forward replacement for Richo and with our next pick not till 51   we won't get another shot at a top 25 kid. I think all the other top talls will be gone by 18. The concern is over Gaertner's kicking and he's fairly raw.

personally i think it'd be worth playing mcguane at CHF, as a junior he played there for the Bananabenders. He also has the physical traits to play there --> big engine, strong hands and a fantastic work ethic

He might not be your traditional big CHF but he could make a fist of it in the Nick Riewoldt mould

Not a top 20 but here's Inside Football’s Top 10:

1 Carlton Matthew Kreuzer
Ruckmen don’t come any better than this kid.

2 Richmond Trent Cotchin
The Tigers cannot afford a speculative pick and this kid is a bulletproof selection.

3 West Coast Cale Morton
Unlikely to take a Victorian with this pick. Morton is a great athlete for his size.

4 Melbourne Rhys Palmer
The Demons are keen to inject class into their onball division.

5 Bulldogs Lachlan Henderson
Key position player likened to Pavlich. The Dogs need size!

6 Essendon Chris Masten
Has midfield speed and class. The Dons need that big time!

7 Fremantle Alex Rance
The Dockers need to develop a key defender. Rance is a local.

8 Brisbane Brad Ebert
A quality forward/onballer pumped up by Michael Voss.

9 St Kilda Ben McEvoy
The Saints need a quality ‘young’ ruckman.

10 Adelaide Jack Grimes
Mid-sized player who could be groomed for half back.


TAC Cup Expert - Brett Anderson's Top 10

Pick 1 - Carlton - Matthew Kruezer (Northern Knights)
The jewel in the crown of the 2007 draft. The Blues will put the icing on the cake of an outstanding off-season by selecting Kreuzer. A midfield consisting of Kreuzer, Judd, Stevens, Murphy and Gibbs will give opposition coaches nightmares.

Pick 2 - Richmond – Cale Morton (Claremont)
The Tigers showed their hand when they traded for Eagle Mitch Morton. Morton’s brother Cale should also be donning the Yellow and Black in 2008. At 192cm and 80kg, Morton is the prototypical modern day footballer. He can run and jump, he has very good goal sense and can play virtually anywhere on the ground.

Pick 3 - West Coast – Trent Cotchin (Northern Knights)
The Eagles wont worry about the ‘go home factor’ and will take the best available player in Cotchin. He is equally as gifted on either side of his body and will fit beautifully into the Eagles midfield. He could turn out to be the best player in the draft.

Pick 4 - Melbourne – Rhys Palmer (East Fremantle)
The Dees could go one of two ways. They could take Henderson to boost their key position stocks or they could add a quality runner to their young midfield. They will go with the latter. Palmer is a ball magnet and a running machine who looks a ready made player

Pick 5 – W.Bulldogs – Lachlan Henderson (Geelong Falcons)
A real no-brainer of a pick. The Dogs are desperate for a quality key position player and will be overjoyed that Henderson is still there at Pick 5. He can play at either end but is most suited at Centre Half Forward. Some recruiters have likened him to Fremantle’s Matthew Pavlich.

Pick 6 - Essendon – Brad Ebert (Port Magpies)
The Bombers midfield is low on depth and talent so to add a player of Ebert’s quality will be a priority. Having played a fair amount of senior footy already, Ebert should be able to step straight in and take some of the heat of Stanton and Watson.

Pick 7 - Fremantle – Chris Masten (East Fremantle)
The Dockers lacked run in 2007 and with Peter Bell coming to end of his fine career, adding a top quality midfielder such as Masten will be a welcome boost for Mark Harvey’s team. Being a local boy is a bonus as he has already tasted senior WAFL footy and was a standout at the U18 Nationals this year.

Pick 8 - Brisbane – Alex Rance (Swan Districts)
The only area where the Lions are a bit light on is in defence. Rance is probably the best key defender in the draft and has the ability to win plenty of the footy. He enjoyed a great carnival for WA providing plenty of run and rebound out of the back half and is well suited to Brisbane style of play.

Pick 9 – St Kilda – David Myers (Perth)
This pick could go anywhere. Speed, speed, speed is what the Saints need but there isn’t anyone good enough that type of pace to warrant pick 9, so the Saints will take the best available player in key defender David Myers. And the Saints aren’t exactly flush with tall backmen.

Pick 10 - Adelaide – Ben McEvoy (Murray Bushrangers)
The loss of ruckmen Ben Hudson and John Meesen during trade week means the Crows will be on the hunt for a long-term solution in the ruck. McEvoy is better suited as a key forward but he has shown the ability to also play in the ruck. He is very much a Josh Fraser-type with good skills and has a good footy brain who will be a 200+ game player in Adelaide.

1) MATTHEW KREUZER (Northern Knights, 18, 199.5cm, 94kg)
If there was the smallest doubt about his status as the No. 1 pick for Carlton, it was erased when the Blues recruited midfielder Chris Judd. Utterly dominant this year as a key tall who can do it all, Kreuzer could be a starring ruckman or centre half-forward.

2) TRENT COTCHIN (Northern Knights, 17, 185cm, 79.5kg )
Cotchin could easily have been the No. 1 pick at a club with plenty of key talls, but the Tigers will swoop on him in an instant. A versatile midfielder with excellent skills on both sides, Cotchin has pace, maturity and composure.

3) CHRIS MASTEN (East Fremantle, 18, 179.6cm, 77kg )
The swooper of the draft. The scuttlebutt was that West Coast felt slighted by Mitch Morton leaving for Richmond, but Masten is the midfielder they need to replace Judd and Ben Cousins.

4) CALE MORTON (Claremont, 17, 191.5cm, 78.7kg)
A rangy outside midfielder who could ultimately play key position, Melbourne will be delighted if he falls through to pick four. The Demons have plenty of in-and-under hard nuts, so the brother of Mitch and Jarryd will fit in well.

5) JARRAD GRANT (Dandenong,18, 192cm, 76.7kg)
This is where it gets tricky. Rivals believe the Bulldogs will take the tall-marking forward they need at pick five, rather than at selection 19. But the Dogs might overlook him for ruckman/key forward Ben McEvoy, fellow Vic tall Lachlan Henderson or even WA full-back Alex Rance.

6) BEN McEVOY (Murray Bushrangers, 18, 200cm, 94.6kg)
Essendon’s selection will have a critical bearing on the rest of the top 10. Does it take McEvoy, the second best ruckman in the TAC Cup this year, or one of the remaining gun WA midfielders in Rhys Palmer or David Myers?

7) RHYS PALMER (East Fremantle, 18, 181.4cm, 80kg)
The Dockers will definitely pick a local, whether it’s Palmer, Alex Rance or David Myers. Balanced onballer Palmer averaged 32 touches in the national championships, has superb endurance and is an all-round midfield star in the making.

ALEX RANCE (Swan Districts, 192cm, 87.6kg )
The best pure full-back in junior ranks, Rance shone at the championships as a stopper with plenty of rebounding intent. His father, Murray, played 97 games with the Bulldogs and Eagles, and, while the Brisbane Lions have Daniel Merrett, they need more defensive talls.

No.9) DAVID MYERS (Perth, 18, 190cm, 86kg )
St Kilda might easily swoop on Rance if he falls through, but Myers is the last of a boom quartet of WA runners exciting recruiters. A tall left-footer, he is quick, agile and has shone surging off half-back this year.

10) BRAD EBERT (Port Adelaide, 17, 188cm, 85kg)
Adelaide would love the chance to snatch ball-magnet Ebert from Port Adelaide’s clutches. The nephew of four-time Magarey medallist Russell and cousin of Port’s Brett, Brad captained South Australia and averaged 22 possessions in the under-18 carnival.
