How did OER begin?
« on: November 27, 2007, 04:15:29 PM »
Someone on here recently mentioned that this website was a bit of a breakaway from PRE.
I very rarely read PRE myself, too many heroes trying to make a name for themselves IMO.

Anyway I think I might have read on here in the past that Rosie once suspended the moderators of this forum...am I right? Why would that be, I simply can't understand it..MT and WP always present clear, concise facts about what is happening at the RFC, as do most of the contributors to this site, how could you get kicked out of PRE for that???

Did a few of you other posters like Ramps, Moi, Ox, CUB, Tiga, come across from PRE?

Experience is a good school. But the fees are high.

MT actually helped set up PRE.  Some of us go way back to the days of Roar Power and Tiger Fury.  I don't believe either of the moderators were banned from PRE.  A lot of us purely didn't see eye-to-eye with a certain administrator, so we all took our bats & balls and left.

Although there are more members of PRE, this is the premier site.

It is more often than not first with the stories  :shh

I was actually unaware of both OER and PRE until early this year. I just googled Richmond Football Club Forum and followed the link to OER.
I find it more down to earth and the people that post here tend to be more in touch with issues and agendas that we as a club face and it is expressed in a more humane way. I find too many people are too arrogant and rude on PRE or they merely try to sensationalise the misgivings of the footy club for the past 25 years in order to gain approval from like minded individuals. I find the moderators here to be much more realistic than Rosy on PRE.

Yeah would like to get WP or MT thoughts on both sites and whether thay can provide a little more insight on how OER came about. :thumbsup

I have been ticked off on here before by the mods, but I don't mind, because I probably generally deserve it.  And there are other times when I think they've got it wrong, and they accept what I say.
What more can you ask for?

Okay we've said this before and we'll say it again - we couldn't care less about any other sites - ONLY OER. OER had and has NOTHING to do with and is NOT in any competition with any other site(s) and none of the admins have been banned from any other site(s).

OER started as an idea to provide Richmond information that you don't find anywhere else, whether that be "inside" info, pics,  historical info from old newspapers, etc .... Whatever we could find of interest. If you click on the OER banner at the top of the forum it takes you to the rest of the site. In fact the original idea wasn't actually to have a forum at all but just a website where we would add stuff from time to time and perhaps just have a guestbook or shoutbox for visitors to ask questions or make all requests. The making of the site started just before Christmas 2003. The forum was added only near the end in March 2003 as you can see from the forum stats page. It was done more to learn fully how to make one from scratch (I do programming as part of my job) but after posting a link on BF in early May 2003 and to our surprise lol we had about 34 people sign up at once and the rest is history. We've been going 3.5 years so thanks everyone and thanks for the kind words :cheers.

I came here after being kicked out of the other site lol ... im a refugee lol. Took me 12 months to cough up that I was Rampaging Tiger, anyway this is good site, sometimes we get stuck into one another on this site but its all good in the end. Seen this site grow immensely, it deserves to go well- most of the real info is posted in here first.

Didn't even know forum's existed until 2004.

Saw a dude at work cruising BF and then found that other site from there.
Never got banned, just left for the reasons mentioned allready.
probably still a member - haven't even looked in years to be honest.
Found OER about the same time and read for a while then signed up.
BF is good for a laugh re: dickwads ala x to the z.
Here is too but also good for facts and what is going down at the Punt rd oval, in some sort of a more mature and open way.

Thanks for all of your reflections....makes for pretty interesting reading!
One Eyed, I hope that I didn't upset you by suggesting that you were booted from PRE....nor was I suggesting that this site was in competition with them...but good on you, keep up the good work!
