Internet Posters wanting Footy Jobs LOL
« on: December 05, 2007, 02:20:35 PM »
Every now and again, on my escapades on the world wide web, I come across posts from posters who for some reason feel that they should be taken seriously by footy clubs and be given jobs.

Now look, every person on every site has an opinion, idiots like me run gimmicks- mine is to try and make a serious point somewhere in a post whilst generally taking the pee. Others go the complete comedy angle, others just post without agendas and thats good.

99% of us understand that its all a pee take on the net. How can people think seriously that writing up on the net entitles someone to a job in a footy club is beyond me, in particular i mean- recruiting of players, drafting of players etc. Some posters do it seriously (for some reason they go week after week and watch junior footy and try and give comprehensive draft guides etc, others see the carnival on TV and maybe go to a handful of games, for mine- those things do not entitle anyone to a job in an AFL club. Anyway, I reckon its sad when people get there hopes up and I reckon that clubs shouldnt be really allowing supporters to think if they do some voluntary work in that regards that they shall be given jobs. Thats just an opinion- I just wanna know if others agree.

Club officials would get hundreds of supporters telling them they should be doing this and not that. You'd be concerned if they took too seriously what is said on these internet forums. As for people on the periphery of a club thinking they are overly important when they are not, well that's be going on forever.

As for scoring a job with a footy club, well Colin Wisbey apparently worked for at least one AFL club and he use to post essays on each kid on his Pies forum. Still I've never seen anyone on any forum who made me think this guy is usually always on the money when judging young footballers. I just treat all phantom drafts as only opinions and appreciate the info offered. You would have to demonstrate a very strong record of consistently spotting kids over a number of years who then go on to become AFL footballers before even contemplating a recruiters job. Clubs are professional these days and aren't just going to hand over $$$ to an amateur who watches junior footy as a hobby. You just can't roll off 50 names before each draft (most of whom nobody ever hears of again) and because a couple of them make it think you are a recruiting guru and deserving of a job at your club lol.

Well the RFC has gone after and poached a 10 year professional recruiter from another AFL club with many contacts right around the country so at least the Club is aiming and investing to get the best people to run our recruiting.

Michael Pahoff, anyone?

This guy is good at compiling lists and spreadsheets, but very average on spotting talent. Regularly gets miffed when the club gives a job to someone with genuine qualifications. His self-importance and large ego keeps on keeping on.
