just not happy giving up Picks No.19 and No.35 ...

Good pick ups ...

question about our 3 out of 4 Rookies ...

they all turn 23 end of 2008 ... not Collard (20)

are we able to keep them after 2008 ?

if not, they only have 1 year to do something ... which frees up 3 spots at the end of 2008 ... not bad move ...

also ...

2002 Draft, we traded Pick No.28 to Essendon for Justin Blumfield ... guess who Essendon picked ?

Tristan Cartledge ...

Alex wouldn't be the best example to use, was speculative even before being drafted

He was a first rounder though wasn't he?
At least a top 20 pick IIRC and along with the Fioras and Schulzs haven't produced what would be expected by the club.
Speculative picks (ie meaning working along with some obvious deficiencies) should be punted on 3rd or 4th rounders IMO.
We have had some success with late picks, but our history of higher picks is very ordinary.

That we have kept the focus on kids and players under 24-25 - we've done well

The general feel around the club is exciting and this draft has had a lot to do with it but we will have to wait and see how good these kids are. We still need to be patient - surely an interesting concept for some ;D

IIRC the maximum number of years as a rookie is 3 so 2008 is Howat's last. As for the other two, Silvester and Cartledge, one of them could remain as a mature-age rookie as each club is allowed one mature-age rookie. Of course the club also has the option of promoting any or all of the three to the senior list at the end of 2008 if it wants to hold onto them for 2009.

Gilmour was pick 21 in the 2003 draft. We gained pick 20 from trading Holland and then on-traded it with pick 6 (Kepler Bradley) to get Browny.

Alex Gilmour (Tassie Mariners, draft pick 21). The Tiges traded their first two draft picks for Brown but still did a helluva lot of drafting with a bucket-load of late selections. Gilmour is a lightly-built on-baller with good skills, but as the youngest player drafted (17 years and fifty-odd days), he's a way off yet. Made senior debut for Wynyard aged 13 and comes from a huge Tiger-supporting family.

Mitch Morton for #35 is a massive win for us.

Speaking to Francis Jackson a few times since the draft, we have done really well. Also spoke to him about JON and he remains very confident the young fella will make it. Have to remember he is only just older than Jack Riewoldt!

People forget how young JON is and that for the last couple of years he's been growing. Hence the stress factures last year. JON will be fine :thumbsup

We'll get to see Gilmour again as he's playing for the Tassie Devils in the VFL next year.
