Yeah or Neah - 16. Shane Morrison
« on: August 08, 2004, 09:13:50 PM »
As the season is now about judging who stays or goes at the end of the year, thought we might have a look at each player who is on a knife's edge and get opinions until the end of the season.

Had an absolute shocker today. Got towelled up by Matthew Scarlett in the first quarter who easily outmanoeurved and outmarked him. I don't think he got a touch until midway through the third.

He was fairly good earlier on in the year before being surprisingly dropped.

Does he have a future with us? I assume as he was picked up in the national draft that he may be on a two year contract ??

I want to see a few more games from him at senior level before judging.

I was impressed with his wizard cup form
Strong hands, lead well and kicked truly.
Thought he must have spent much time with J.Brown in Brisbane as was similar type but of course no where near Brown's level.
Played a creditable game against Cwood in round 1 and thats about it.
Got dropped and I think he was injured for a period as well.
Played well enough for Coburg in recent weeks including a bag of 8 goals to be in the team gainst Geelong.
I was at the game today and had my eye on him.
Yeah MT he got totally outmanoeuvred by Scarlett on at least 4 occasions in the first.
He got dragged in the second and came back in the third and gathered a few touches.
Not much to write about really but he had a lot of mates today as well.
Would like to persist with him in the last 3 games, before I decide.
If he is to hold a key position like CHF, I think he needs to bulk up a lot more to hold his ground in such a high imapct zone of the ground.

I don't remember him playing well at the beginning of the year MT - must get my tapes out
He is a total waste of a draft selection and will be glad to see the end of him.
Scarlett towelled him and was so relieved to see him benched.
He has no confidence, i reckon i could arm wrestle him and win - bye bye Shane

I thought he had a 2 year contract - he was the only player to put a figure on his head at last years national draft.  ???

Play him for the rest of the year and see - personally I am leaning towards keeping only because we don't have many blokes of that size

Ars him like a draftee has never been ars-ed before!

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO@people raving about him because he plays the same position as Jonathan Brown. As if Matthews would let him go if he was worth anything. I had never seen him play before we drafted him and I reckon most of the people who were tossing his salad hadn't seen him play either.

I saw 3 minutes of this guy against the Dogs and said he wont come close to playing for us........Any player who is over 6 foot and tries to mark the ball by flicking up his hands in a snatch like motion has no football brains........between him and Ray Hall, we are going far with contested marks.

If hes on a one-year, please show him the door........he is useless.

Morrison was a handy player at the start of the season,

he was leading strong up the wings and bringing the ball inside 50. He would run hard and always present, he also is a very good kick for goal. In my opinion he shouldnt have been dropped in the first place and was showing a little(keeping in mind he still had/has a lot to learn about playing senior footy)

Being beaten hands down by Matty Scarlett is no disgrace, he is an absolute gun. One of my favorite players outside of the tigers.

I think Morrison should be given the next 3 weeks to have a crack and show us what he can do. This week against Adelaide would be a perfect opportunity as he will have the 2nd or 3rd best defender and has plenty of space to run and present at footy park.

He was very enthusiastic at the start of the year and who could blame him for dropping off a bit at this stage of the season. I would like to see him do full pre-season with us and have a good crack under a new coach.

I know that he nominated in the draft as a catergory one player which meant he had to paid more than the base rate, did he also have to be signed for a min. of 2 years?

i am not sure

He runs too far under the ball when trying to mark.
His contested marking is Shyte as well.Second efforts aren't good either.
He might last another year just because of the queue in front of him is soooo long

The rest l just wasted.

I'm with Wrenny on this one.

I'd like to see him tried at CHB and even FB.

He won't amount to anything up forward IMO.  He cannot take a contested mark to save himself.

But he does seem to be quite mobile for a biggish man and can get to a contest quite well.  This can be harnessed to enable him to spoil successfully from behind.  He's also OK when the balls on the ground.

However the dud Frawley has no imagination and balls to try Morrison in defence.

If we can't attract a decent CHB and/or FB during the off-season, I would like to see Morrison at CHB and Schulz at FB come next year.  Bowden, Moore, Jackson and Newman to be the other defenders around them.  This backline IMO shows promise, poise and an improved skill level.  Also it has youth on its side and they can grow together with Bowden as the team leader.

If I see Gaspar, Kellaway, Fiora or Chaffey in defence next year I will spew.
Does anyone have half an idea on anything?
