Shoes in the house on or off?
« on: December 30, 2007, 10:17:41 PM »
Not too long ago we purchased light coloured carpet which we now regret. :banghead We tried to enforce a shoes off policy but some people didn't get our polite requests and now it is really looking worse for wear. We even left a pile of our shoes at the front door to no avail. So it would be interesting to see how many of us who have a shoes off policy and have been successful in enforcing it.

Shoes on unless they are muddy. Then it's either take them off or go around the back on the lino. Our carpet (main walking areas) gets vacuumed twice a week and once a year the carpet gets a good scrub.

We have light coloured carpet and tiles.
Despite this as Greeks it would be seen as an insult to someone of my parents generation to ask them to take their shoes off so everybody just trundles around with their shoes on. Fortunantely the kids are not old enough to get muddy outside and dirty the house although the crayons and textas and food that the kids deal with does a good job anyway.
Furthermore if my inlaws come in with dirty shoes it gives me more of a reason to spite them at a later point in time. :lol :rollin :lol

We actually have people ask as they walk through the front door if they should take their shoes off  :o

I always say nope. I don't like being asked, so I don't ask :thumbsup

We have light coloured carpet in the bedrooms, study and lounge, everything else is tiled (light coloured as well) and it's not something we've worried too much about.

Same here WP. We had a visitor once to our place who still took his shoes off despite us saying he didn't need to. He said it was his custom so he walked around the carpet in bare feet. Tinea anyone  :-X.

its to hard to enforce shoes off policy over time, we have light colored carpet it gets regularly vacuumed and once a year it gets cleaned properly, id prefer floorboards but jackos right about women in high heels stuffing up expensive floor boards, i personally think nice tiles in the living areas looks really good, been to quite afew new houses where its 90% tiles in the living areas, its actually not a bad look.
