Harshly treated compaired to the Cousin's saga. So I think he had more to give but was a lamb to the slaughter. But he did own up to doing the wrong thing which is a plus to him.

Charles did the wrong thing even if it was to overcome injury but wasn't there a lot of controversy at the time from memory when you think back to Alistair Lynch taking IIRC technically illegal medication to overcome Chronic Fatigue Sydrome.

It was a terrible shame and he paid dearly for it. Was such a passionate player and had the ability to motivate the others with his infectious enthusiasm.
Hope he goes well at Lilydale this year, I will be going down occasionally to check him out :thumbsup

my brother inlaw used to play baseball with Justin and knew him quite well,  my brother inlaw becomes very irate and really lets rip at the RFC when his name is mentioned, as i was living o/s at the time am not really up with finer details.

but nonetheless terrible shame what happened, apparently more people knew what was going than was let on.

Yes a very good baseball player was Justin Charles

Made a big mistake with the roids but played some good footy for us

I thought he was a great acquisition in tandem with Benny Gale. He was too injury prone and hence the drugs saga. Was very mobile for his size.

Who did he play Baseball for?? At 196cm I would have loved a strike zone that big!  :lol Problem probably would have been with arms like tree trunks he would have hit me out of the park with ease!

Only played two games after his suspension before retiring..
Not one of the RFC prouder moments that. :wallywink

He's played for a number of teams tiga

He played in the MLB minor league for the Florida Marlins Triple AAA affiliate. Played for the Melb Monarchs in the old ABL (that was ruined by fromer MLB player & aussie Dave Nielson), played in a coupple of local teams in the VBL including Port Melb and Williamstown

I actually got to know Justin's Father & step-mother when we were neighbours and they always said he knows he made massive mistake. Do know that the hip problem he had was major - the bone didn't fit properly into the socket was how it was explained to me.

I saw him a couple of years ago at a Club80 function, I will confess to hardly recognising him as he has lost a lot of weight to ease the pressure and pain on the hip

Always happy to stand corrected WP.
Just a damn shame.

FWIW I thought he offered us great value before that incident.

Sadly when it is all said and doen Mr Magic - he will be remembered for that drug incident. While others who did the same thing around that time and didn't get caught will be remember for their efforts on the footy field.
