FALLEN football idol Wayne Carey and model girlfriend Kate Neilson have gone their separate ways after a stormy two-year relationship.

Family sources close to Carey said last night they believed it was a final break-up rather than a separation. "It was amicable, and they are both moving forward in their lives," the source said.

But Ms Neilson denied their relationship was over. "I'm just going away for a week or two to clear my head -- just to get away from Melbourne for a bit," she said.

The Herald Sun also believes that Ms Neilson received the $180,000 that women's magazine New Idea paid them for the interview in which they confessed to their cocaine habit.
