Injury update
« on: February 06, 2008, 03:09:37 AM »
Richmond is in an excellent position on the injury front, with only No. 2 draft pick Trent Cotchin out long-term.

The midfielder is still recovering from a broken ankle suffered in the TAC Cup finals.

On BF they are saying Cotch is 9 weeks away.

Quote
Trent is yet to fully run, end of this week, and is expected to spend 4 weeks running before contact and is expected to spend another 5 weeks of contact before being considered available for AFL selection.

9 weeks still?!

Sheesh that's some injury to the young lad.

Hope he doesn't have ongoing concerns.

As long as Cotchin is 100% right when he finally plays then it doesn't matter if that's 9 weeks away. Mid-April still gives him most of the season to play.

From the Age

Trent Cotchin is recovering from the broken ankle that ruined his pre-season, while Angus Graham (ankle) also is likely to miss the start of the pre-season competition. Luke McGuane, according to Bowden, is also in doubt to line up against St Kilda next week.

"Trent's had a little bit of trouble with his ankle (and) subsequently with his Achilles, so not going great," Bowden said.

"He has good days and bad days, so I'd say he won't play (in the NAB Cup), barring a miracle."

as he is an investment in the future no need to rush him into the action, unlike some other club who shelled out millions for his signature.

Yes, though he must have done bugger all in pre-season, so he'd be a chance to play some senior games late in the season at best.

yes ... no need to rush Cotchin at all ... just get his ankle 100% ...

i don't think he needs to do any skills or ball work ...

already made player ... just needs to put on the muscle like all 17 year olds ...

Cotchin won't be risked in NAB Cup

RICHMOND’S first pick in the2007 NAB AFL National Draft, Trent Cotchin, will not feature during the club’s NAB Cup campaign.

The 17-year-old, who underwent ankle surgery before the draft, has suffered achilles soreness and assistant coach David King says the club won’t be risking him.

“He’s so young so we’re taking a careful approach with him. He’s the youngest player at the club and we just don’t want to regress with him at all,” King said.

“He won’t feature early in our games and he certainly won’t play through the NAB Cup. We just want him completely free of any issues before we push him.”

exactly, why risk injurying him in a season that won't really mean much in the end. Would much prefer to see him play fewer games but at 100% rather than all the season but with an injury cloud

Exactly. 2009 and beyond is when we'll need Cotchin. There's no rush.
