Player                  Injury                      Onset      Estimated Return

Trent Cotchin    foot stress fracture    Pre-season        Rnd 4

http://www.injuryupdate.com.au/afl.php

Did I miss something or is this the first time it's been publicly stated Cotchin has stress fracture(s) of the foot  ???. I notice this was also mentioned in Karen Lyon's Age article.

Spoke to a Richmond trainer today at training. He said the report in the paper about Cotchin having foot stress fractures was crap. He's only a couple of weeks away and will be right by round 3. He said Cotchin was having shots at goal with his right foot today whereas before it was only his left foot.

Meyer may be close to playing either this weekend or if not then next weekend. I presume starting at Coburg.

Rance thinks he is a chance to play for Coburg this week. He trained for a large part of today but finished off sticking his foot and ankle in a bucket of ice water for 20 minutes. They think he'll be right by Thursday.

Petts looked like he picked up a niggle. Nothing serious as he was still able to run a lap with a trainer but he pulled out of main training.

The impression I got bluey was Cotchin will be back training in 2-3 weeks and will play for Coburg come round 3.

We got talking amongst ourselves about Cotch spending most of the year at Coburg due to him lacking a full preseason and one of the trainers chipped in and said he's got the talent so why not use him as a pinchhitter off the bench for 10 minutes at a time so he doesn't tire out. He could be the difference in some games.

Boy that's a big call for an injured first year player who hasn't played a game yet. I hope that trainer is right, wouldn't it be nice to have recruited a youngster capable of that. Personally I'd be happy if he just showed something this year and settled in, I don't expect him to be a match winner.

I actually quite like this idea, as long as he is not carrying any injuries. If match fitness is the only prob then I think it is a brilliant idea to give Trent a pinch-hitting role.

It is a big call but if Cotch's ankle/achilles gets right then IMO he could still show some value as a pinch-hitter this year. He was a freak at U18 level.

Miller on SEN today (courtesy of Y&B):

Cotchin is 1 month away with a problem with tendonitis in his achillies. After round 2 he is confident he will be back and playing with Coburg. He is extremely keen to start.
