And traded Schneider.  ???
Roos must have thought he couldn't achieve anymore with that premiership group.

i heard a story that #14 Bird is going to be a gun
anybody care to comment
just to wear that number at the swans is some sort of statement

He went ok against the Hawks in Tassie, might have even been BOG
Bird is likely to miss tonight's game according to the Age.

“All the outlets have been really busy today (yesterday) as well and we will get another update tomorrow (today).

“We expect there will be another big increase tomorrow (today) and in the days leading up to the game.

So, the game's tomorrow (today) and ticket sales are going well today (yesterday). The players will be flying up tomorrow (today) and flying back tomorrow (today) instead of in 2 days time (tomorrow).

Do I get the job, Mr Editor?

Go tiges today! (today)

Pretty right but Schneider>Mattner.

Swans are in big trouble real soon and Roos will no longer be the hero.

Yep and the Swannies will no longer be the lovechild of the AFL with this push for a Western Sydney side.

schneider is not better than mattner, and schneider has the worst hammys in the afl now that bucks has retired

sydney still have a good side and much better than ours, dont write off the swans and roos yet

I beg to differ there X, Schneider at his best is significantly better than Mattner. IMHO Mattner is a slight improvement on our own Rainesy. Honest goer who lacks peripheral vision and because of this often gets tackled. Schneider on the other hand has many Gablett qualities IMO. At his best he is hard to tackle, has beautiful kicking skills and is a genuine matchwinner.

But with your 2nd point I agree. Swans are far from a crap team.

Raines problem is that his team mates dont talk to him when his got the ball
that comes from players like Captain dumb dumb who dont talk on the field so the players follow the leader
If players talked it up more on the field Raines wouldnot run into problems & thats fact
l would back mattner over Snickers anyday

A definite blockbuster (Daily Advertiser)

A definite blockbuster
Daily Advertiser
Paul McLoughlin
29 February 2008

The Tigers had an indifferent start to the NAB Cup going down to the Saints in its first round encounter, but that should be the only blight on a solid pre-season campaign for the proud club.

Last weekend Richmond showed more of its fighting spirit with a confidence-boosting 35-point victory over Melbourne, and goes into tonight’s clash keen to continue that form.

Coach Terry Wallace will be settling on a game plan for the “serious” season and with that plan on display tonight, the club and its supporters will get a much better measuring stick for the year ahead.

Former Rising Star Brett Deledio won’t find himself starved of opportunity in the forward line tonight – his outstanding skills will be used further up the ground to deliver to a revitalised Matthew Richardson who will enjoy cameo performances from the likes of Nathan Brown and Kayne Pettifer.

The return of Jay Schulz and the talented youngster Cleve Hughes will add another tall dimension to the line-up.

New recruits Jordan McMahon (Western Bulldogs) and Mitch Morton (West Coast) have already found their feet and been solid contributors in the club’s pre-season outings.

The blend of experience and youth has built a solid base for Richmond to begin its climb up the AFL ladder.

Tonight’s victory over the Swans will signal to all that the 2007 wooden spoon team can expect better times ahead.

Swans primed for AFL Blockbuster
Daily Advertiser
Matt Malone
29 February 2008

Roos yesterday heaped praise on his playing group, describing the Swans’ pre-season efforts as close to the best he has seen is his time at the club.

Both Sydney and Richmond will take near full-strength line-ups into the game and a crowd of over 10,000 spectators is expected at the clash.

With Sydney looking at wiping out its renowned slow starts to the AFL season this year, Roos yesterday told The Daily Advertiser tonight’s clash was a crucial lead-up game for the Swans.

“How we start the season really depends on the next two weeks,” Roos said.

“So far we’re in front of where we’ve been at in previous years but from our point of view we still want to get a lot better over the next two weeks.

“Given we finished last year three weeks early, we’re a lot more advanced for this time of year this pre-season and you can certainly tell the difference.

“All our guys have really impressed and in terms of this game, we’re taking in our 24 best-performed players that were available.

“I’m sure Richmond will be in the same position. These next two weeks you’ve really got to get your best team out there and get them going the best you can.”

All three Sydney co-captains, Leo Barry, Brett Kirk and Craig Bolton will take the field for the Swans, along with big-name stars Barry Hall, Adam Goodes and Ryan O’Keefe.

Richmond has also shown its intentions for the big pre-season encounter and will be led by skipper Kane Johnson and the likes of Matthew Richardson, Brett Deledio and Nathan Brown.

Roos encountered the Narrandera experience with Sydney last year when the Swans easily accounted for Collingwood.

The 2005 premiership winning coach said the Swans were again looking forward to their trip to the bush.

“Absolutely, we had a great time out there last year,” Roos said.

“The fans there were terrific and the town itself really made us feel very welcome last year and I’m sure it will be the same again.”
