Richmond to play Sydney Swans in round 3 pre-season clash at Narranderra
Tuesday, February 19, 2008. 5:44pm
By Shannon Byrne

The Richmond Football Club will be doing battle against the Sydney Swans next week at Narrandera Oval in round three of the AFL pre-season cup.

Today the AFL announced the Sydney Swans will return to the Riverina for the pre-season clash with The Tigers. This will be The Swans consecutive year to play at the Narrandera sports ground, after they beat Collingwood by 56points last year in front of more than 10,000 footy fans.

It will be The Tigers’ first visit to the Riverina and they will be looking for all of their supporters to don the yellow and black and help them across the line against the popular Sydney outfit.

The highly anticipated clash will be a special game for footy fans in the Riverina, as it will be the only AFL game to be played here in the AFL’s 150th anniversary year. Although the game was originally scheduled for Lavington Sportsground, the AFL (NSW/ACT) did want to alternate a game across the NSW region, it was handed to Narrandera for the consecutive year after Lavington sportsground did not meet the standards required by the AFL.

The round three pre-season match will be played next Friday, 29th February, at Narrandera Sport Ground, and if last years attendance is any indication, to avoid disappointment you should get your ticket prior to the game and get there early – the game gets underway at 7pm.

The price of being kicked out of the NAB Cup first round.

On the Murrumbidgee downstream from Wagga isn't too remote. We were up at Echuca the other week so just a bit further inland than that. Better Narrandera than Albany or Geraldton.

Nah, his name's CUB.  :P

Casey Fields is a paddock compared to Batyswater Oval.

I went to Lavington for a Richmond v Essendon pre-season game a couple of years ago. It rained so hard and was so windy that it was called off.
Nice drive.  :-\

Narrandera Sportsground - Victoria Avenue, Narrandera

The Narrandera Sportsground is known as one of the top sports grounds in Southern New South Wales due to its high quality playing surface and facilities for both players and spectators. To further improve the facility, Narrandera Shire Council has completed the "Narrandera Sportsground Floodlighting Project" which now allows the Sportsground to host events at night.  Currently, the Narrandera Sportsground is the home of the Narrandera Imperial Eagles Australian Football Club which competes in the Riverina Football League.

:-[ Sorry 632. I was only saying that for the players and travelling time stuck in a plane. IIRC the last time we played in Gero a couple of years ago it took the team 5 or 6 hours to get there changing planes and all.
