Petts on SEN from 1-2pm

* Was asked how does Petts see himself as a footballer?
A HFF who loves kicking a goal. Helping out the team. Likes the high marks but don't get to many chances with Richo down there (laughs). They mentiioned Petts being nominated for mark of the year 3 weeks running in 2006.

* Going to be 31 degrees this Friday at Geelong. I know from the Cairns game it is draining. You lose 3kgs so it does take it out of you and your recovery.

* Cogs is back - a massive bonus. Hard at it in the midfield. Played a couple of games with Coburg and his form is very good. Petts handballed the ball to Cogs when he changed direction and did his knee the first time. Cogs will help out Foley and Tambling. Confidence is a big thing. It will take him time but hopefully we can give him some easy ball to get him back into it quickly. He's such a hardworker off the ball.

* Swans game - everyone contributed. An even spread apart from Richo who starred with 5 goals. We didn't have that even contribution against St Kilda.

* Saints got numbers behind the ball and charged forward. We fell back into old bad habits and the confidence fell away. Against Melbourne and Sydney we followed the coaches instructions. Terry came down hard on us on the Monday and Tuesday meetings after the Saints game. We had two hard training sessions on the track as a result so hopefully we don't go back to those bad habits. It wasn't crisis meetings but we just went over game reviewing what we need to do and not to do as a team.

* Geelong game will be a full hitout with the Cats fielding their full side. Want to go down and continue on our form from Narrandera and play some consistent hard footy.

* Very fortunate to be doing what I'm doing.

* 2-3 goals a game is a good return. Try to get to 30+ a year and any more is a bonus. Try to get his inside 50s up too.

* We've got a bit of firepower down there this year. It'll be an even spread if Petts, Lids, Browny and Richo can all kick goals and not just go through the big fella every time.

* Caller rang in and said will the mids lower their eyes and spot the other options?
We've got a lot of pace down there so if we can bring the ball through the corridor we should be able to use them.

* Mark Doran said this isn't the first year the focus has triedv to be taken off Richo but it doesn't work that way. Petts said we've also got Hughes and Polak down there down so other tall marking options too. We have changed this up and our skill level is a lot better.

* Caller rang up about opponents running off Petts and Browny. Admits it was something he had to work and Terry has been hard on him about it over summer. Said we did chase and pressurize up at Narrandera so wish he could show the video.

* We want to get off to a good start this year unlike 2007 when we lost close games early. First goal is to play finals this year.

* Caller rang up about our lack of crumbing. We've tried getting the ball in deeper this year and our small forwards and mids charging on the ball. Foley, Blingers, Edwards.

* Spoke about the season launch coming up.

* Yep there's more media scrutiny now. Even things like Fev going through a school zone. Our leadership group discusses those sort of things.

* Doesn't believe racial abuse would happen now on the field. Confident our players won't stoop to that.

* Caller - we seem to lack goals and questioned our assistant coaches. Caller was also pushing his own new footy boots
Rawlings - forwards/Coburg. King - backs, Royal - mids, McRae - cubs/small forwards.
Petts said he's confident this year will see improvement and our assistant coaches are good.

* Narrandera - ground excellent.

* Collins was good and definitely a player of the future.

* Foley - most contested possies, running bounces, centre clearances. Stiff to miss out on B&F but he was excellent last year. A player of the future (good one Kayne lol).

* Played a clip of one of Petts marks. Hands on the head are okay (laughs). Spoke about the Richo and hands in the back. Shattering at the time as we needed a win and the big fella was celebrating the goal but it's the rules.

* Petts in top 10 of score assists. Mark Doran mentioned Jonathan Brown being No 1. in scoring assists as well as being the leading goalkicker.

* Caller - Rodan. He use to run and bounce his way down the ground and put pressure on the  (opponent) backline. However he didn't seem happy when he came back from the broken leg (sic - it wa a knee). Is there something we need to learn from.
Petts said Rodan has done well at Port and yeah when he came back from the knee at Richmond he wasn't the same.

The callers asked some pretty pertinent questions.

i thought the rodan question was a bit silly. move on. he left us and thats that.

the question about our coaching support staff made a bit sense. i mean how long do we persist with the royal, rawlings, king and mcrae quartet

I'm probably in the minority but I have time for Petts as a footballer. I can think many a lot worse at Punt Rd.

Maths not Petts strong point obviously lol.

The key there is "through the corridor" and playing direct.

Yesterday was the first time I recall them doing a specialised crumbing drill around the goals. Before that it was mostly done in scratch matches or them just having snaps across the body at goal.

McRae is relatively new but agree Royal and King have been down there since Terry arrived. We didn't bother either bringing in another assistant coach when Rawlings switched to coaching Coburg. We just gave Jade two hats. Spent the money instead on a sports psychologist who was at training with Miller yesterday.

If we don't kick on this year GM might be a full time patient.  :D He'd need a couch by the interchange bench and a consulting suite next to the coaches box.

I've got time for Petts as well. I reckon he's a very underrated player.
