Battle for the Spoon - Tiges vs Hawks
« on: August 15, 2004, 04:10:42 PM »
A couple of weeks back I would've said we would beat the hawks. But they haven't been too bad recently. A toss of a coin IMO so I'm nervous. On current form the Dogs are the worst side in the AFL but their % is much better than both us and the hawkers.

We gotta look at the pros/cons about this.

If we finish last we will get first pick in the draft and it will predominatly be picks 1 and 4 you would think. We also get first pick in the pre season draft (first pick at an uncontracted player eg stevens, rawlings etc) and first pick in teh rookie draft.

Best bit is we already have our coach. If we lose next week we definatly get priority picks no matter what happens.
So who knows?

That's true wrenny but I think we can safely say after 12 straight losses (unless there's a miracle) that the priority pick is safe with 2 rounds to go. From a pride point of view and the fact that I don't want us to go through all pre-season without a win since May, I hope we avoid the spoon.
I'm also nervous of first pick in the national draft. From memory history shows that the kid seems to suffer from the burden of that.

Lets hope we lose for gods sack Deledio pick 4 and best uncontracted player is too good to pass up.

Cheers

Welcome aboard OER blaisee  :cheers

Sad isn't it that under the current system losing is such richly rewarded. Won't say no if it happens though  ;). I know a number of Tiger supporters who have been in 2005 mode for months now that they don't care anymore if we win or lose this year :-\. I guess one good thing that came out of the weekend was that after all the euphoria of Wallace signing on, we and he will be under no illusion as to amount of work and time required to fix the Richmond footy list. A new coach, no matter how good he is, is not simply going to cure our ills.

Let me see..... ::) :'( :-\

If we play like we did in the first quarter against the Crows for 4 quarters we will win

If we play like we did in the final quarter against the Crows for 4 1.5 quarters we will get thumped by 40+ points  :help :help

Welcome aboard Blaisee.
Deledio and the best uncontracted would be good.
I like Jarrod Roughhead as well
Why are you intrigued Blaisee ?
You might also find a few players from other states( S.A ) end up on our list, we will have to just wait and see ;)

Win or lose we are a disgrace either way. So it doesn't matter a bit in my opinion. I hope we draw.

Looking at the ladder if we lose by a small margin the teams' positions won't change. We stay 15th.

Geez that sums up how well we're travelling. You're normally figuring out what other teams need to lose at this time of year  :-\.

We sure as hell wont beat the Swans the week later, so lets just beat the Hawks avoid the spoon and finish second last and be happy and look at 05.

Bring on the spoon  !!

Who cares !!

Big deal !!

Nobody remembers who won the spoon.  I bet no-one here remembers when we won our last spoon.  I don't.  Or even who won the spoon 2 years ago ?

Bring on picks 1 and 4, and we'll soon forget about the spoon when these kids are dominating the comp.
Does anyone have half an idea on anything?

1989 boss......and yes we all remember who wins the spoon....

No spoon....second last is bad enough, lets not totally humiliate ourselves. Ive seen 2 spoons in my life-time.....a third is NOT REQUIRED!

The way we have played this year it would be a travesty of justice if we escaped without the spoon.  I would like to make it official that we have hit rock bottom.

Yes we will cop schit for it off opposition supporters, but we can't cop any more schit than what our team has delivered to us this year.
