Miller to give up Roo shares
By Jon Ralph
April 07, 2008

RICHMOND football director Greg Miller is to give up his controversial Kangaroos shareholding and step down from the Tigers board.

Miller has been accused of a conflict of interest after keeping the Roos shares since crossing from North Melbourne, where he was the club's chief executive.

He was elevated to the Tigers board. And while Richmond says he has done an excellent job, it is happy for him to concentrate on football matters.

Richmond president Gary March said on 3AW he had discussed with Miller finding another board member to replace him.

Miller has drawn criticism for holding on to the shares, which helped the Roos reject a relocation to the Gold Coast. He has told March he will hand them back.

They are owned by Bob Ansett, the former Roos president and architect of the club's unique structure.

New president James Brayshaw has demanded that structure be dismantled if his three white knights are to inject money into the club.

The AFL are also adamant they will consider giving annual distribution funding to the Roos only if the shares are handed back.

"It's not an issue for our board at the moment," March said.

"Greg has indicated he will be giving them back. He holds them in trust for Bob Ansett. He has indicated he will be giving them back at some stage this year. The shares thing doesn't really concern the Richmond Football Club.

"He is not involved in North Melbourne. He has indicated to me he is giving them back.

"I will take his word on that and I am sure he will."

Miller and March agree the football director should be allowed to devote his energies to the football department.

"We have also indicated whether he will stand down off the board and he may well do that this year. I haven't said I would like him to stand down," March said.

"What we have tried to do with Greg is give him more assistance and get him back to being the general manager of football."

If Miller steps down then the board will be looking for someone to come on the board and replace Miller on the football subcommittee. A former player?

Gale would bring zero value to the board.

Another of a long line of players that kept the club finishing 9th. It was more tham once we needed to win our last game of the H&A to make it to the finals and failed. Gale was part of that era and losing culture.

Time for Michael Green to step up to the board. Premiership player from a wining era, one of Melb's best barristers. Too may of these kind of guys not involved and need to be.

Benny Gale.

He couldn't do it as he is the CEO of the AFLPA.

Conflict of interest - really  ;D

Sheeds! :pray

I think Miller should go. His recruiting has been questionable at Richmond and I think if he was to stay he should be removed from that position in future.

Cameron Schwab has quit Freo as CEO and wants to come back to Melbourne for family reasons. Of course he was our Secretary/CEO between 1988-94.

rfc always employ the wrong ppl. been our biggest problem over 2 decades

if we want to be succesful it starts from the top

march must show he is the boss ad start demanding more from terry and the boys

graeme richmond would not accept the poo that is happening

the ruthless tiger must stsrt from march and the board

sack miller now

tell terry he has til rnd 11 to show something or else he will never see rnd 12 as a tiger coach
