Wallace: Tigers flounder in the wet
17/05/2008 11:11:37 PM

Richmond coach Terry Wallace believes his team is not suited to playing modern day football in wet conditions.

"We have done okay in wet conditions in a few games in the past but I think we have become a real strong run and carry side with genuine speed in our line-up," Wallace said.

"We only had eight running bounces for the game today. That ability to step out and run with the footy was a little bit lost."

we lost cos we had too many passengers in the 3rd q when things got tough

Agree - a cop out.  Should be able to play even in a dust storm.

thats why i cant stand him as a coach when he comes out with pathetic comments like that.

picture this we make it to the grand final next year and we lose.

.................and wallace comes out with that. well it was a wet day it didn't really suit us bla bla bla.

mate if you want to win a flag
number 1.. you should be able to play anywhere and any type of football. dry, wet, hail shouldn't matter.

possibly the worst comment i have heard him make this year

Threads like this are pointless, Wallace will always say the wrong thing in the eyes of too many people here. Better to keep the discussion to how we played than what the coach said.

Isnt Wallace just saying what we all know...the tiges are a run and carry side.

King is one of the leaders for running bounces...it was that style of game that got us the draw with Bulldogs and smashed Freo.

It was obvious with the rain and soft ground that we would be losing one of our weapons from this year.

For those of you who want to constantly bag Wallace for everything that comes out of his mouth...thats poor form...

I am with {X} on this issue...

I don't think even successful Richmond sides of the distant past have been that fond of the wet. The 71 PF and 82 GF were damp days when we were hoping for dry and sunny conditions instead and of course we lost both.

I've got nothing against Wallace making the statement - but I think he is wrong.  Geelong aren't suited to wet weather football either but what they did was adapted better.  When our intensity at the ball dropped off they took control by getting the ball forward as quick as possible by any means possible.  It didn't have to be skilful or precise, just quick and territorial.  The ball coming into the faces of the defenders as quick as possible was pressure enough once we slackened.  Basic stuff really, it's just that AFL sides don't get nearly as much exposure to it nowadays and it was the smarter, more experienced side that knew what to do.  Another learning curve for our kids - and I would like to think the coaching department took something away from it as well.

Sometimes saying nothing is better !!. (probably applies to this post too)

Yes the wet didnt suit our run and carry but the way he said it comes out like a cop out.

Better off just saying we had improved alot against the benchmark of the competetion. We are not complaining about the loss or saying we didnt improve, this thread is tittled "Not a wet weather side: Wallace" and thats what is being comented on.

I think we have impoved alot but this is about what he said and I think he could of put it better.

Maybe jezza is right and we should not comment on what the coach says. They put it out there and when they do its up for comment.
