VFL FOOTBALL is back on the Coast, and AFL-listed players will descend on West Park on Saturday.

"We get to see an aligned VFL club, we will see guys running around on Saturday who have either played senior footy for Richmond this year, or who will," Burnie Dockers president Shane Walker said.

Richmond coach Terry Wallace yesterday questioned the role in the team of senior players Kayne Pettifer, Greg Tivendale and Joel Bowden, who all had a stint with Coburg earlier in the season and may find themselves playing at West Park this weekend.

Walker sees the Tasmanian Devils versus Coburg Tigers game as a coup for this end of the Coast, which has not seen this level of football for many years.

The last Devils game anywhere on the Coast was in 2005 at Devonport.

Walker said club officials went through the collection of names for the scoreboard to see if new ones needed to be ordered for Coburg and the Devils.

They found one for Tasmania, but also some for AFL sides like Richmond, Walker said.

It has been a long time since teams like Collingwood, St Kilda and Richmond played pre-season matches at West Park, so the club is planning a gala weekend of football.

Fans can meet the Coburg Tigers coach and former Coaster Jade Rawlings, along with Devils caretaker coach Lance Spaulding at a coterie luncheon on Friday.

On Saturday all the usual NTFL action is on, along with Auskick under 8s and the VFL match.

The football-loving public will have the chance to see a number of AFL-listed players in action for Coburg, along with home-town Devil Luke Shackleton.

Late start. The players might need a miner's light and hot water bottle for the last quarter.

Coburg in force (Mercury)

Coburg in force

THE Tasmanian Devils will face a Coburg Tigers side bolstered by the return of Richmond rising star Andrew Raines and possibly Tiger veterans Joel Bowden, Greg Tivendale and Kane Pettifer in their VFL clash at Burnie's West Park on Saturday.

Add to the mix Tasmanian Tiger Jack Riewoldt, and Coburg will bring an awesome force to Burnie.

Between them, Bowden, Tivendale and Pettifer would inject 513 AFL games' worth of experience into the Coburg side.

Raines and Riewoldt are two of the rising stars in the AFL.

"We won't know exactly who's coming down until after the final match committee meeting tomorrow night -- it's all still in discussion at the moment," said Coburg's Tasmanian coach Jade Rawlings, who is a member of Richmond's five-man match committee.

However, Rawlings did guarantee that Raines would play.

"It's an important step on his way back from injury," Rawlings said.

Raines, 22, dislocated his knee in March and has been sidelined ever since.

He played in Coburg's reserves side last week, and Rawlings said the 2006 AFL Rising Star runner-up would put himself to the test against the Devils.

"Any game you play on the way back from injury is an important step on the road to recovery," Rawlings said.

"Andrew has been very diligent in his rehabilitation and he's now ready to progress through VFL football.

"It's up to him now in how his body adjusts and his form in how long it takes to get back in the Richmond side."

Raines, a hard-running defender, will be given numerous roles against the Devils.

"He's a natural defender, but I'll offer him an opportunity to play further up the ground so he can get involved around the ball," Rawlings said.

"But down back is the predominant position he'll be playing."

Riewoldt kicked four goals for Coburg in its win over Werribee last Saturday.

That put him in line for a promotion to Richmond's side for the Tigers' clash with Melbourne at the Telstra Dome on Sunday.

"He'll be in the mix," Rawlings said.

Richmond senior players Bowden, Tivendale and Pettifer face the axe after the Tigers' second-half fade-out to Adelaide at the MCG last Saturday.

Any news on the Ins and outs as yet?

I would prefer to see Riewoldt line up for the tigers but I can see that playing back in Tassie would be a nice touch.

I have my fingers crossed (and toes for that matter!) that all three -Petts, Tiv and Bowden - are dropped to Coburg but I can't see it happening. I think Bowden will be playing for the Tigers for at least another few weeks.

Hope Coburg can have another glorious victory though I 'm not sure how I will keep up to date with the scores :(

Just remember this weeks game is subject to the 12/10 rule as tassie is stand alone. So only 12 RFC boys will play. The other thing is all the guys named on the RFC Interchange will be listed

Yet another quality article in a Tassi paper.

Jack is not named.

Jack will be playing at Telstra.

Why do they buy newspapers down there?

Oops, no toilet paper in the supermarkets. :rollin
