CARLTON have suffered a major blow with captain Chris Judd ruled out of Saturday's important AFL clash with Richmond at the MCG.
The Blues confirmed that Judd would not play as a result of being concussed in a heavy clash with Essendon skipper Matthew Lloyd last Sunday.
"The Carlton doctor has monitored Chris's progress this week and while he has continued to improve he has not recovered sufficiently to play in tomorrow's game," coach Brett Ratten said.
"Medical tests conducted during last week's game, following the heavy collision in the first quarter, indicated Chris was fit to continue during the match and the medical team regularly monitored him throughout the game.
"Unfortunately his symptoms deteriorated after the game.
"The medical team have confirmed that Chris playing out the game against Essendon has had no bearing on his availability for selection this week."
Judd was replaced by youngster Darren Pfeiffer in the Blues' 22.
Midfielder Andrew Carrazzo (concussion) and spearhead Brendan Fevola (back soreness) had also been under an injury cloud.
But, unlike Judd, both trained with the main group and appear certain to play against the Tigers.
