The Blues overran Richmond at the MCG on Saturday with a seven-goal last quarter.

No Judd and only a modest contribution from Fevola, who kicked four yet was beaten by Kelvin Moore.

The Tigers, who went into the game with a sniff of finals in their nostrils, fell apart.

They just don't have a player with the presence, physically and mentally, to lead the way when the heat is on in a tight final quarter.

Matty Richardson can inspire with his brilliance, but there's no Jonathan Brown or Luke Hodge or Brad Johnson or Tom Harley or Scott Burns to set the tone.

While Moore, Brett Deledio and Trent Cotchin did their best, they were let down by their far more experienced teammates.

Nathan Brown with six behinds, Troy Simmonds a mere shadow of the ruckman who started the season in such promising fashion, Richo shut down by Jarrad Waite until he went down with a hamstring strain.

Cotchin looks a beauty and his progress is even more exciting considering his interrupted preparation.

Mitch Morton and Cleve Hughes also underlined their promise, but, bottom line, the Tigers aren't ready to play with the big boys just yet.

I agree with Sheahan. It was not our younger players that let us down, it was a senior players.

Bowden was exposed for his lack of pace and defensive pressure.

Simmo was beaten as his injury again stopped his jump and run as the game progressed.

Browny kicked 7 points straight!

Richo was injuried and Waite ran off him and was damaging.

Johno gave us no leadership in the middle when the tide started to turn.

our up and coming leaders Newman and Foley....were left wanting.


We desperately need good leadership all across the ground when things start to turn and we just don't have it. Bowden is the only real leader we have but unfortunately he leads our team in the wrong direction - to slow the game down and chip it around.

Before we can mould the leaders we need though we need our 'bad' leaders to move on and I'm talking about Bowden in particular. Who have we got coming through though? - Kingy? Riewoldt? Patto?

It's a bigger concern for the future, more so than our players improved form IMO.

Sugar is probably a nice guy but he is a very average footballer and our performance as a footballer underlines how useless he is as our Captain.
I honestly think this is a bigger problem than our current coach.

You cannot ignore his form at the start of the season coming out of a full preseason and being 100% fit. He was leading the entire competition according to Champion Data.
The guys leadership is unquestioned at the club, you never hear anything but glowing reports on his leadership ability

there lies the big problem, the rfc have no idea and are delusional. sometimes people on the outside looking in have a better idea and perspective on what is going on. captain peepee is no captain, take a look at what stevens did to us on the w/e. when was the last time kane stood up 4 us and won a game for us by leading from the front. kane has never ever done that, ever. he is no leader, he is no inspiration. full stop

Can tell you that no one rates Kane Johnson and who cares what last years wooden spoons think anyway.

In Kane Johnson's defence (God forbid) He's a top bloke, a good clubman and a true Tiger fan. Its these qualities that should be screaming out at him and saying step down as Captain and retire at seasons end. As Mike Sheehan has correctly pointed out (also God forbid), we don't have a scruff of the neck Captain that says give me the ball and let me show you how its done. Someone said he's not an in your face captain. In all honesty that is exactly what we need atm and have needed for some time. Kane Johnson has always been a high posession mediocre AFL player who has performed well in star studded teams like the Crows premiership side where his deficiences were hardly noticed thanks to the likes of Mcleod and Roo. But at our Tigerland, those mid age stars just aren't there to provide coverage or support. Look at every successful team and you will see a Kane Johnson running around with them. Take away the likes of Ablett, Corey & Bartell from the Cats and you would probably see at least 3 or 4 Kane Johnsons in the Cats side. My point is this, there is a place for the Kane Johnsons of this world in AFL footy but right at the moment, it isn't at the Tigers.

When Kane Johnson left the Crows, it was exactly as Pink Floyd once said "He exchanged his walk on part in a War for a lead roll in cage." Well the cage is now well and truly rattling and the walk on part is long gone. Thanks for the memories Kane.
