Miller was always gone at season's end.

Thats why his role changed earlier in the year, and that's why he was asked to resign from the board a couple of months back.

Good riddance to the ferret. Has done nothing in 6 years but scratch his aggots.
All companies have internal reviews why should footy clubs be any different. He obviously has been working if you can call that work with too much complacency. Why have a bloke who has shares in another club? Why have a bloke who 4 years ago was not prepared to work with a new board if Casey was to lose elections? Miller is a piece of dead wood and this review or move by the powers that be at the club is fantastic. Hopefully they get a Richmond person to replace the Marauding Idiotic Lazy Lying Egostical Ratbag. :clapping  :cheers :bow

Miller going, going … almost gone (The Age)

Miller going, going … almost gone
Nick Sheridan | July 27, 2008

RICHMOND is ready to sack its director of football, Greg Miller, as early as tomorrow.

While club president Gary March moved yesterday to play down speculation about Miller's future, sources within the club said the president was simply waiting for a chance to speak with Miller in person to formally end his tenure at the club.

According to the club insider, March told Miller by phone on Friday that he wanted the two to meet next week to discuss his future at the club. The source said that Miller, seeing the writing on the wall, decided to leave town for the weekend in an effort to take the heat off the club as it prepared for last night's game against the Brisbane Lions.

However, the situation intensified yesterday after radio reports suggesting that an internal review of the club was likely to lead to the sacking of Miller and possibly one or more of the team's assistant coaches at the end of the season.

Miller's absence now seems to have prolonged the inevitable, with March wanting to meet with him personally before publicly announcing his sacking.

Speaking at the president's dinner before the game last night, March did not deny that Miller would be sacked, but sought to downplay the significance of the club's internal review.

"That review process started when I first became president, it's been an ongoing review process … what came out (yesterday), at the moment, is pure speculation. We'll be talking about it over the next couple of weeks as we go through that process, but that's all I'm going to say on the matter at the moment, we'll be dealing with it over the next couple of weeks," March said.

There is also mounting speculation that assistant coach Jade Rawlings will face the sack as a result of the review, as it emerged that Richmond has spoken with past champions Wayne Campbell, Stephen Silvagni and Craig Lambert, and had canvassed the prospect of recruiting Collingwood legend Nathan Buckley to an assistant's position next year.

Miller's sacking is set to come just over a month after he stood down from the Richmond board. Miller, who was chief executive of North Melbourne before he joined Richmond at the end of 2002, has steadily lost his influence at Punt Road over the course of the past year. At the end of 2007, Miller was also relieved of his responsibility as the Tigers' head of recruiting, and it has been reported that he has continually clashed with the Richmond board over his refusal to sell his shareholding in the North Melbourne Football Club.

The latest round of board manoeuvres could renew speculation about the future of Richmond's senior coach Terry Wallace, whose contract expires at the end of 2009. It was Miller who oversaw the appointment of Wallace at the end of the 2004 season after Danny Frawley was sacked after five seasons in the hot seat.

Tiger puzzle: where's Miller?

IT WAS the straightest of straight bats from Richmond coach Terry Wallace when he was asked in his post match media conference about the apparent departure of director of football Greg Miller.

Wallace said he'd had an early-morning phone call from Miller, but denied any knowledge of what was happening.

"Can you tell me what's unfolded? As far as I'm concerned at the moment, nothing's unfolded," he said. "We'll find out in the next 24-48 hours where it sits.

"The only thing I know is that I got a message from Greg this morning – Greg rang me and said that he wouldn't becoming to the game today for personal reasons; that he was stepping away.

"I asked him was he all right, were things okay, and he said he'd fill me in more in the next 24 hours.

"That's all that I've had any contact with … look, we were in the middle of preparation of the game, I didn't speak to the playing group about anything whatsoever, we were right in preparation mode, and we just couldn't allow anything to get in the way."

That's a terrible thing to say. The guy has had a heart attack from carrying the off field side of the club due to lack of funds. Cherry pick his faults all you like, the fact is the guy busted his ass for us and used the resources he had to make the best decisions he could. He has put in place a team to take over specialist roles that he couldn't do by himself but did anyway. A little respect please.

Glad to see the back of this f**kin worm.

Have never understood how Richmond people have blindly supported this bloke when its very obvious he looks out for his own interest first.

On a side note, people should take it easy on Lambert - we tried dishing him off to Fitzroy as part of that deal with Hogg and he cracked it and left. Don't blame him after we built up a core young midfield with Free, Campo, Knighter and Lambo, and then try to show him the door.

Every time I've spoken to him he's seemed nothing but genuine.

Depends on who will now "return". People get their knickers in a twist about getting ex-players back, yet some of them have the only credential of being an ex-player from a period when we were crap. I hardly consider getting someone like Wayne Campbell back to the club a big deal.

Too much romanticism about getting ex-players back to the club, especially when they were crap

Miller AWOL as Tigers sharpen axe
By Jon Pierik | July 27, 2008

RICHMOND are in turmoil after football operations chief Greg Miller went missing amid strong suggestions he was about to be sacked by club president Gary March.

It is understood an emotional March had intended to meet Miller on Saturday to tell the veteran his seven-year stint at Punt Rd was up.

But in a bold move that could split the club, March had yet to even tell coach Terry Wallace of his plan. March and directors Peggy Haines and Michael O'Shannassy have almost completed a wide-ranging review of the football department, and Miller was to be a high-profile casualty as the club desperately fights to again become a league heavyweight.

But in farcical circumstances, March was unable to get hold of Miller, who got wind of March's plan and failed to return his calls.

Miller, though, contacted Wallace to tell him he would not be able to attend the clash against Brisbane Lions at Telstra Dome where he was to work on the interchange bench.

The decision to sack Miller also comes as former captain Tony Free, who replaced Miller on the Tigers board in mid-June, conducts his review of the club's football operations. Free was in the coaches' box during Saturday night's match.

Tiger officials last night said they believed Miller, 55, had fled to his coastal holiday home, and were not expecting him back until Monday.

The day of drama clearly took its toll on March, who needed reassurance from Richmond chief executive Steven Wright before giving his president's address to the Tigers faithful.

March refused to mention Miller by name or confirm he intended to sack the man who joined Richmond in 2002 when Danny Frawley was coach and played a key role in recruiting Wallace on a five-year deal.

"What I did say and what the club said last year was that (review) process would be ongoing this year," March said.

"It's been well documented that our resources weren't fantastic over a number of years and that we needed to continue to grow our organisation, and we would do that when it was prudent.

"That review process has been ongoing. It is still ongoing and we will be looking to further enhance our football department.

"It's something that has been ongoing for sometime and it will continue until we get the Richmond Football Club up back where we want it to be, in the top four clubs in the competition."

Wallace maintained he had no knowledge of March's plans to sack his right-hand man.

"He (March) has been interstate for the past week," Wallace said on Triple M before last night's clash.

"I haven't had the opportunity to speak with him. Obviously, over the next 48 hours, we'll have that conversation.

"I have no real knowledge of what was going on at board management with Greg. I had a phone call from Greg this morning. He said he was unable to attend (the game).

"He said he was a bit upset and he wished the boys all the best. He said to concentrate on the game at hand."

Caro said on 3aw the leak came from people the club has spoken to as replacements. Greg got wind of it and then confronted the club.
