« on: September 25, 2008, 08:44:13 PM »
I know some here think IR is lame  ;) but the AFL site says the 24-man squad has been named although they didn't post the squad apart from North players  ???.

Any Tigers in it?

ROFL we have to be soft with the poor Irish but we name Campbell Brown, Max Rooke and Ryan Crowley who love to dish out the punishment at any time possible.

I can hear the sooking coming already.  :rollin

With the class of team however I assume Lids was asked and said no.  You would hope so.  :-X

I'd say Brett Deledio would have been picked except for the fact he's getting his knee attended to in the off season after chipping the cartledge mid season.

Foley excited by opportunity
By Murray Belkin
1:13 PM Wed 08 October, 2008

THE only Richmond representative in the 2008 International Rules series squad can’t wait until he pulls on the green and gold colours for Australia.

Tiger midfielder Nathan Foley is eagerly anticipating the first game of the series against Ireland at Subiaco Oval on Friday October 24.

What he is equally looking forward to is the second match of the series in front of his home supporters at his home ground - the MCG on Friday October 31.

“It’s just a great opportunity to represent your country – it’s something you do think of when you are younger,” Foley told afl.com.au.

“It’s a great opportunity and I’m grateful for the chance.”

Playing for Australia seemed a distant dream for Foley after he was elevated to the senior list by the Tigers in the 2005 draft. But the star midfielder hopes to cement a spot with the Australian squad for many years to come.

“You play well and you might get the chance next year, so it’ll be great going back-to-back playing for Australia - going over to Ireland would be a great experience.”

With Australia looking to defend the Cormac McAnallen trophy won in 2006, Foley is already trying to adjust to the International Rules style of play.

“It’s a really quick game, I think it’ll take a lot of gut running and a huge endurance factor but also a massive speed factor,” he said.

“I think we’ll be pretty spent at the end of the game.”

I just hope Foley is 100% and he gets through this unscathed and it doesn't take away from his preseason preparation. I'd be surprised if he was allowed to play in this if those rumours of him having mild OP during the 2nd half of the season were true  :-\.

I didn't hear that MT, but being in Sydney I don't hear a lot of that stuff you would down there.

Agree there then we need our clearance king ready and roaring to go in '09

Since Foley is the only decent midfielder in that bunch he will have to be kept in
