Frawley to run coaches association
October 13, 2008

FORMER Richmond coach Danny Frawley will take over from Neale Daniher as the AFL Coaches Association (AFLCA) chief executive.

The association also announced Monday that Richmond football manager Paul Armstrong, who will leave the Tigers at the end of the month, will become the AFLCA's coaching development manager.

Daniher, the former Melbourne head coach, is leaving the post to become an assistant at West Coast. Association president Kevin Sheedy has confirmed he will stay in the role next year.

Terry Wallace loses his sidekick Paul Armstrong
Damian Barrett | October 14, 2008 12:00am

TERRY Wallace is to lose another confidant at Richmond, with long-time right-hand man Paul Armstrong choosing to leave the club.

Wallace, in the final year of a five-season coaching contract with the Tigers, will need to find a football operations manager after Armstrong accepted a senior role with the revamped AFL Coaches' Association.

Armstrong will become development manager of the AFLCA, beneath new chief executive Danny Frawley.

Frawley said last night he would not have accepted his position without Armstrong also being part of the AFLCA.

"I couldn't think of a better person to work with," said Frawley, who has resigned from an assistant coaching role with Hawthorn.

"We're very excited about it. We are determined to grow the game, determined to help the coaches as best we can, determined to develop the assistant coaches on and off the field.

"The ideas we have are in their infancy. There is a lot of work to do, but we are hell-bent on making it all work."

Wallace was disappointed by the sacking of his football director Greg Miller in July.

He has managed to retain Brian Royal only after negotiations broke down between him and Fremantle for the position of senior assistant coach to Mark Harvey.

Richmond recently added former captain Wayne Campbell to Wallace's assistants.

Armstrong could not be contacted last night.

Frawley said he would maintain his media commitments in 2009.
