8 – RICHMOND – TYRONE VICKERY
Sandringham Dragons, VIC, Ruckman, May 31, 1990, 200cm, 88.8kg
(Draft range: 4-8)

Expect Vickery or Hartlett to land at Punt Rd. It seems unlikely both will be available for the Tigers at No.8, but should that be the case Hartlett may get the nod. Still, Richmond will be delighted to snare either player. Vickery, whose father John is a rehabilitation and conditioning coach at Richmond, is so highly rated that some recruiters believe he would not be out of place at No.1. The Tigers have also been linked with Yarran, Hill, Hurley, Sidebottom and Sam Blease. Shaun McKernan and Jordan Roughead also shouldn't be discounted, considering they could be taken anywhere from here through to Richmond's second pick (26).


26 – RICHMOND – JAYDYN POST
Western Jets, VIC, Tall forward/defender, December 5, 1989, 194cm, 88.4kg
(Draft range: 23-48)

After producing what many recruiters described as one of the greatest TAC Cup matches of all time late last season – he had 35 disposals and took 18 marks – Post has risen up the pecking order. He now seems a certain top 50 selection, with Essendon, North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and St Kilda also interested. The Tigers are believed to be very keen and will have to take him now, considering their next pick is No.58.


58 – RICHMOND – ADAM COCKIE
Subiaco, WA, Small/medium midfielder, April 18, 1989, 180.3cm, 82.2kg
(Draft range: 52-79)

Cockie has been linked to at least four clubs – Richmond (58 and 70), Collingwood (73), Essendon (67 and 79) and West Coast (52) – with the Tigers believed to be keen. Richmond will also monitor the whereabouts of Jetta, Shiels, Paul Cahill, McCulloch and Bryn Weadon. Former Bomber Tom Hislop could also be in the mix here, but he seems more likely for No.70.


70 – RICHMOND – TOM HISLOP
Essendon, TAS, Medium midfielder, June 7, 1988, 185cm, 85kg
(Draft range: No.53-not selected)

Taken at No.20 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, Hislop was delisted at the end of the 2008 season, largely due to some off-field issues. He remains a highly-regarded prospect and will be claimed with one of Fremantle's selections from No.50 onwards or by Richmond at No.58 or No.70. Collingwood has also been linked, but the Tigers and Freo are favoured. If Hislop is unavailable and West Coast passes up Jamie Bennell, don't be surprised to see him slide through to No.70.

That would be a good result if it panned out.  Post looks like a very likely type and obviously Vickery is very highly rated.  Dont know much about Cockie but would prefer a Mitch Banner or Tom Rockliff if available.  Hislop is interesting, not sure why we would look at someone with his history ??

Essendon gave this guy another chance, allowing him to train with them. They've now come out and said they won't be considering him. He either hasn't changed his ways, or doesn't get along with the coaching staff.

This guy, if he gets through, would be better off taking in the PSD or rookie draft. That way we can have him train with us and we can check him out properly.

I don't see us taking Hislop as we usually only go for recycled types who train with us before the drafts. His off-field issues alone would make you say know without seeing him close at hand within the club environment.

Burgatron has us linked to a number of these kids if they slip. Yarran, Hill, Hurley, Sidebottom, Blease, McKernan or Roughead at pick 26 and then Stanley and Redden at 58. I hope Post is more than a one game wonder.

Since publishing my Phantom Draft at 2pm AEDT on Wednesday, it has been revealed that Fremantle will almost certainly be selecting Stephen Hill with pick No.3.

Why did you alter pick 58 for the tiges.

Unfortunately, there was an error in production. It was meant to be Varcoe instead of Cockie. Having said that, both players are right in the mix in the draft.

58 – RICHMOND – ADAM VARCOE
Central District, SA, Small/medium forward, December 31, 1990, 178.8cm, 64kg
(Draft range: No.31-not selected)

The talented small forward has all the tricks, but has been plagued by injury in recent times. Don't be surprised if the Dogs consider him with one of their two 'live' picks at No.31 or No.32, otherwise he could slip through to 50-plus. Most recruiters think he is too talented not to be drafted. Port Adelaide (66 or 78) has been mooted and West Coast (52). Richmond is also understood to be interested in him, which makes it interesting at No.58. Others in the mix for the Tigers include Adam Cockie, Jetta, Shiels, Paul Cahill, McCulloch and Bryn Weadon. Former Bomber Tom Hislop is also in under consideration.

Freo are idiots  . Sadly we are one or two spots too high for Rich to fall to us. The only way we could get him is:

Ess - Hurley

Rich - Rich

Oh well it's looking more and more we will get a quality kid which is the main thing.

Intrigue continues as draft day looms

WITH fewer than 24 hours before hundreds of youngsters find out their immediate football fate, this year's top 20 continues to take shape on the eve of Saturday's NAB AFL Draft, to be held at Telstra Dome from 10am.

There have been more twists and turns than a James Bond movie, with the Stephen Hill/Daniel Rich scenario at No.3, complicating the order immensely.

Jack Watts (No.1 – Melbourne) and Nicholas Naitanui (No.2 – West Coast) look locked in, with Hill now almost certain for Fremantle at No.3.

Now it appears, Essendon will shape the draft.

Michael Hurley, Steele Sidebottom and Daniel Rich are the most likely contenders for the Bombers pick No.5. The hot tip is Hurley or Sidebottom. It will be fascinating to see what eventuates.

From there, No.6 to No.11 will also be intriguing. Where does Daniel Rich fit? Could he land at Carlton at No. 6, or even filter through to Collingwood at No.11?

Chris Yarran (Carlton – No.6), Jack Ziebell (Brisbane Lions – No.7) and Tyrone Vickery (No. are now shaping as the most likely scenarios.

North Melbourne is in the position of waiting to see who slides through. It is understood to have Sidebottom as top priority, but will it be Rich if he gets through to the Roos’ pick No. 9?
