Decision is made ... end of story for mine

He is a Tiger now and going into 2009 everyone starts with a "clean slate"...

Certianly has some size going by the pic from Y&B

"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

from the song "Don't Walk Away" by Pat Benatar 1988 (Wide Awake In Dreamland)

thank you for only those people who actually voted. still 13 days left. just interesting to see other Richmond supporters view. even though Hislop is raw but comes with a bad rap. i only hope he turns out to be a champion with Richmond which we all hope. keep voting!

No, TH has passed the Ty Zantuck school of AFL ethos.

Understand that the decision has been made, however, would have preferred that FJ called McCulloch at 58 and saved TH for 70 if the club was comitted to draft him.

He might be our Fevola in his reputation preceeding him.
Give him a break and he might do well for us.
Thats what I'm hoping for anyway.
I don't know what he has done before as he was somewhere else when he did what he did and he wasn't a big named player.
So I have no idea about him. All I know is our sellection staff thought enough of him to draft him to us So this is enough for me to get on his good side.
If we can't support our own then what is the point.

Agree.  He didn't appear in any public controversy of any sort (Fevola, Schulz, Didak etc etc etc) so my guess is that his 'misdemeanors' were club related - being under the influence at training, late for training, breaking club curfew/rules etc, just the type of thing that most (not all) players grow out of as they mature.  This guy is lucky he didn't live during the Spanish Inquisition - he would already be a smouldering pile of ashes due to being a witch.

Yep agree with the recent comments, regardless of what happened on draft day Sloppy is ours now so lets support him.

It would be good to have him perform so we can be all high and mighty and hang poo on the Bummers.  It has been good hanging it on the West Coke fans over Morton and if I could find a Freo fan I would have given it to them over the couple we picked up form them a while ago.

I personally think it is great. Over the Wallace years I’ve always thought that because of the state Danny Frawley left our list in that we needed to top up on 80 – 150 game players to fill that 25-30 year old gap we have on our list. They have done this well in the past few drafts by recruiting players like McMahon and Polak with little fuss and not to much expense in relation to losing out on picks. I know some people still think pick 19 for Jordon was not a good move but the fact is he has fitted in well and played a running roll down back and will contribute for years to come.

I think the coaching staff has got it right picking up blokes like Thompson and Hislop as they would have had to move heaven and earth and give away early picks to trade for established players from other clubs (Ryan Okeefe being the best example). I just don’t think that there have been that many good 25- 30 year old players willing to up stumps to new clubs and if they wanted too, their clubs have been putting way to big price tags on their heads in relation to draft picks and their manages with salary’s.

What Thompson and Hislop will bring to our group is a massive amount of pressure on first grade spots. 2008 was a great building block for a lot of our 19- 23 years olds but these 2 recruits alone are going to make guys like Foley , Lids , Cotchin , Mcmahon , Tuck , Edwards , Connors , Collins , Coughlan , Rains , King , Jon , Polo , Jackson , Rance , Shultz , Tambling and White work their rings off over summer as they will have to be ripped up and ready to go to get a game.

If we picked another two 18 year olds all they would have been given time to develop and some of these guys might have some thoughts on being certain of a spot in the first grade squad. Obviously on talent alone some are but both Thompson and Hislop know what is needed to do to get a game and I’d rather these blokes be on our list than say a Myer , Tivendale and Hyde any day of the week.

If you add Vickery and Post to the equation I think we are going to see a very balanced first grade squad out on the field even if we get a few injuries (something we were very lucky with in 08) . These 2 blokes put so much pressure on Rewoildt , Hughes , Morton , McGaune , Patto and Simmonds.

Another massive upside is that Coburg are going to be strengthened by the arrival of these 4 players and I’m sure this will give all these developing players a huge lift in confidence for when they are called upon to the big stage.

I really like what is happening at Tigerland. The rebuild has taken some time and effort but I’ve never seen the club so stable and working this smart and to a plan in all my years supporting them. The Richmond teams of the last 20 years used to have 1 great player 3 good players , about 4 that would get a run in most club teams and then drop away for the rest of the list.

Strap in for a great 2009 guys and girls because we are about to see a very quick , skilful young side run the pants off a lot of teams this year and one of the reasons for this has been the on going build up of depth in all positions. Hislop and Thompson have added to this considerably and although they might not get a lot of game time this year having them on the list will ensure the guys that do play , play at a level better than last year.

I'm happy that Hislop is with Richmond as he will add depth to our midfiled, however it is too early to tell whether he will step up with the Tigers and leave his past behind.

Have to say that with Hislop & Thomson theyve added some tougher types. I like Vickery because he seems like a lad who wouldnt be afraid to punch on in a match. Its about time we started getting some mongrels (meant in a good way) back into the Tigers.

You have not got a clue if you hold hope of JON ever becoming a senior AFL player.

he is pathetic have you not watched him play Football.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Great post - very positive and makes a great deal of sense. I probably won't have lumped Rance or JON in with the midfield group but the point of the piece was extremely logical.

I agree our depth is stronger now than I can remember all over the ground. Our midfield and backline in particular have an abundance of talent fighting for places and our forwardline is filled with youth. Our rucks are still a little while away before they are challenging the likes of Simmonds or even Patto at the moment but still the future remain promising and the depth is there. I am hoping Gus begins to push Patto out of the 2nd ruck place this year and creates some competition there. Putt is still a couple of seasons away I would imagine.

I just read an article on Rance where he stated that eventually he would like to move into the midfield so I think I owe you an apology Bentleigh. Would be interesting to see someone of his size flouting around the middle - how big is Tuck is he 192?

I voted yes i think he can add some extra toughness to our centre, We need a thug or two in there (not in the Zantuc vain)
Im hoping that his injury worries have cleared up and that was the cause of him going slightly off the rails.  Which to be honest doesnt sound bad as nothing was in the media and we all know how they jump on anything a AFL player does wrong.
