Just to temper the excitement ....
« on: January 04, 2009, 01:35:02 PM »
I know we are all excited after winning 8 of our last 11 and Cuz becoming a Tiger but just a reminder for us to make the finals we can't go through 2009 winning just 1.5 games from 12 against the top 8 sides like we did last year. Mind you of all the bottom 8 sides only Brisbane had a semi-decent record vs the top 8 sides. Carlton for instance only had one win from 9 games against the top 7 sides (they beat the 8th placed Pies twice).

Good point MT but remember we should've beaten both the Saints and the Bulldogs which doubles that stat.

Very competitive against 3 of the top 4 sides in the comp for season 2008 with a fit Ben Cousins and improved outputs from Tambling, Morton, Thursfield, Mcguane, Cotchin, Rance etc means that we should be getting completely carried away!!!!! They know we're coming!!!!!!

Ooops sorry, turned into a Richmond supporter with a Blues supporter mentality.

I still believe though that you have to start somewhere and beating fellow bottom 8 clubs is a step in the right direction :thumbsup

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments MT.

The only decent team we beat was Hawthorn, and I think that they were poo on the day...even though we played really well and showed we can get to quickly.

However, winning those late games has built confidence in the team and it is another step on the ladder to regular finals appearances.

We are developing some fine young Tigers and have injected some experienced but younger players into the group to balance the age mix better.

With Ben Cousins on board, and if he can get out on the field, we should be confident that our Terry graph is on the up.

Too true MT. Great post.

We fell over at crucial times against genuine challengers last season and Terry Wallace & his team still have much to prove before they deserve to be taken seriously.

LOL FF. Yep a bit early in the year for a dose of reality  ;D.

The second Adelaide game is the one that sticks in my mind. They were ready and up for the game given both clubs finals chances were on the line yet we didn't give a yelp  :(. I hope that game still stings the players and motivates them to work harder as much as the positiveness of 8 wins on the run home. Until we can turn up and compete over the whole 4 quarters let alone win these type of games when the opposition are up for it then we can't consider ourselves genuine and respected finals contenders. Hopefully another year of maturity, development and experience amongst the cubs as a team will go a long way to us not seeing another embarrassing non-event like that game again.

To be honest I don't want reality. I want old fashioned Richmond swagger and arrogance. I want the rest of the league to be sick to death hearing how we are coming and how they are going to have to extend the "G" when we do. I want Blues and Magpies choking on our boasting and bravado just like in the old days.

I want the Punt Road End to be a sea of yellow and black and a wall of noise when we run out against the Blues before 40,000 of the tiger Army in march and everyone else thereafter.

I want the Tigers back.

It was funny reading on a Carlton forum the other day how sick they all were of hearing about Richmond and Cousins. Pot kettle black whinging ;D.

The old-fashioned swagger and arrogance off-field went with flag after flag on-field. Deliver on-field and the respect will automatically come.

We haven't had much success for some time against Saints North Adelaide Sydney Geelong. When we are consistently beating those teams we have a finals team.

If you finish 9th, surely it is kind of self-evident that you struggled to beat the sides above you? Similarly, if you finish top 4, then it's a fair bet that you've beaten some of the sides around you?

True enough but let's stuff it down their throats anyway. Whenever I talk to a Blue before March I'm referring to us as the MIGHTY TIGERS. Always use mighty. When I talk of the "G" it is OUR HOME in OUR suburb which effectively it is. Whenever i talk of the fans it will be Tiger Army VS Blue platoon.

They wil be sick to the back teeth listening to me.

Car'n the MIGHTY MIGHTY TIGERS. !!!
