Enough Disrespect
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:42:46 PM »
Well since the Cousins circus started many moons ago I have watched news stories, read newspapers, online newspapers, magazine articles and listened to radio talk back shows regarding the fall and rise of Ben Cousins.

But enough is enough and tonights story about Ben pulling out of the Cleo who gives a toss competition has done it for mine. If you so called reporters, journo's and radio announcers have one grain of credability the STOP with opening your stories with; Discraced, former drug adict, self confessed drug addict, recovering drug addict, drug addict, discraced former Eagle...... Do I need to go on.

Leave him alone with your crap opening story lines and show some respect, enough is enough.

I can't believe that a few months ago over here Chris Mainwairing was remembered by a monument built at a beach in Geralton. Not one word about ex junkie in that story. Even today, Heath Ledger was remembered as a great movie star not someone that died of drugs.

Show some respect and start backing this bloke in you low life's.

I agree WAT! They only nominated Cuz as a vehicle to try and boost the stupid competition's profile. Good to see that he saw it for what it was and withdrew.
Many words I would like to say about the journo's who start their article's with "Disgraced" unfortunately would be caught by the swear filter but stuff you all anyway!!
They are the ones who should be labelled as "disgraced" by the never ending ridiculous articles they are writing about him. I'm sure Cuz will rise above it all and give them all a big F.U when he takes the field this season and rips up the opposition!  :thumbsup

It's not going to go away.
Benny is the Paris Hilton equivalent of the AFL.
They will muck rake him until he either wins another Brownlow/Premiership or falls off the wagon unfortunately.

You can't have you cake and eat it too.
The fact is Cousins is putting money in our coffers so the circus is in town for a while yet.

What's the old saying - never speak ill of the dead - and as Van Gogh found out it pays more too  :whistle.

Cuz is a living breathing daily story for the media. They can't lose. He either crashes due to reverting back to drugs or injury, OR he succeeds and they go with the whole what a triumph back from the dead line (excuse the pun). Either way it'll sell papers and boost ratings. The dead don't change and can't be photographed drinking mineral water  ::) so they are no longer news. There's always someone living to build up and then tear down.

As long as Cuz now has the right support structures and people close to him who truly care about his best interests and his rehab then screw the media. The RFC benefits from the daily publicity. I know Cuz refuses to have his photo taken with fans because he can't trust what people will do with them (either sell them to the media or photoshop the pics and post them on dodgy websites). He'll happily sign autographs but no snaps. In fact on Wednesday I saw him flinch and turn his back while signing an autograph when someone pointed a camera in his direction from 10 metres away (and no it wasn't me lol).  The other thing to consider is although it doesn't justify the scum in the media who would harrass him anyway, Cuz through his own actions did bring extra attention to himself over and above Ben the footy star with his drug addiction and hanging around suspicious types. Until he proves otherwise when the footy starts he'll continue to be the "disgraced former drug addict" in the eyes of the media and to some in the public.

Sorry to read that MT.
It's crap what paps will do for a photo and Benny is quite the celebrity unfortunately.
The best advice Benny can take in that respect is out of Rusty Crowe's book. That is when in public wear sunglasses where possible & just stick with wearing the same ol' generic RFC gear, with sponsorship logos attached and soon enough they'll get bored of shooting him in the same old garb with no emotion. It worked for Russell (lol he has no career anymore) and it will work for Benny too, though hopefully he'll still have the career just not the hounding. :)

As I understand it this was on advice from the Club.

It's not just the Cousins thing, it's the media all round, it has been especially awful lately.

Just to defend the bloke holding the camera. He was just a Tiger fan and not a pap. Actually he is close friends apparently with a couple of players. The camera actually belonged to that Eagles fan who asked him if he would hold the camera while she got Ben's autograph. He was just checking it out and looking through it and Cuz must have thought he was going to take snapshot. It just shows Ben is aware of cameras on him and how many actually paps must be out there snapping his everywhere he goes. The restaurant article in the paper today being the latest example.

I just remembered also that Sean Bowden was there on Wednesday watching his brother train and chatting to Richo.
