Mal Brown beaten by thug

FORMER Richmond hard man Mal Brown was sporting a black eye during the week after a run-in with a young aggressor while holidaying on the Mornington Peninsula.
The former Richmond player, WA Football Hall of Fame member and Sandover Medallist copped a battering when in the early hours he left his bed at his hideaway holiday home in Portsea to quieten a group of revellers.
It appears one young man, whom Brown saw raiding his fridge, did not like the former Tiger's grumpy attitude.
He kicked Brown in the shin and then shot two sharp jabs to his head.
Brown, father of Hawthorn premiership player Campbell Brown, was seen at the Australian Open trying to hide the shiner behind a big pair of designer sunglasses.
The attack followed the bashing of VFL great and Brown's old foe, Ron Barassi, on a St Kilda street when he went to help a young woman during New Year's Eve celebrations.
"I admit I had been saying Ron Barassi should have thrown a punch in his skirmish and had said it was typically Victorian stuff," Brown said. "But I know now how he felt."
Brown, 62, said he did not know who his attacker was because he ran off.
Brown, who had a reputation for liking the tough stuff in his playing days in WA and Victoria, said he could not take on his aggressor because his hands were full.
"I was just too damned shocked and my eye was already hurting," he said.
"I just happened to have my best hand, my right, holding up the towel that was around my waist.
"If I had let go that would have ruined everyone's night."
Brown's wife, Kaye, was in the house and was shaken by the ordeal.
