Deliveries make a memorable day

Battle of the 'Wicks

RICHMOND'S Matthew Richardson played "raffle girl — and sold heaps of tickets", and Evans said the day raised around $4000. Eight clubs played three games each, with Elsternwick defeating Brunswick in a final that was dubbed the "Battle of the 'Wicks". Another highlight was the performance of Barnawartha North, the club purchased last year on eBay for $810 (Sporting Life, Feb 18), in being dismissed in one match for 12 from its seven overs. Barnies veteran Dennis Huxley made 10 of those (not out), and there were three golden ducks. "I'm pretty confident in saying we won't be buying the Barnies now," said Evans, who had previously chided owner Stephen Cooke that they were going to outbid him at the next auction, just so they could boast of owning their opposition.

Nailing down Richo

IN CASE you've missed it, there has been a fair amount of interest in Ben Cousins of late. But not everyone wants a piece of Benny. Take Trent Reznor, lead singer of the American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, who couldn't let slip the chance last week's live shows in Melbourne afforded to get along to the no-longer-a-dome and meet that other cult figure of the stage, Richo. Reznor, a multi-talented artist who has famously emerged from a dependence on alcohol and drugs and a long battle with depression, had his people talk to Richo's people (aka Richmond FC) and organise some tickets for Thursday night's game against Collingwood. An entourage of strange rock'n'roll types turned up, but because several were wearing make-up designed to make them look like Tigers, they took so long getting through various security checks that the real Tigers were almost ready to take the field by the time they made it to the rooms. A potential post-game meeting fell through when the Nails headed back to their hotel before the final siren. Reznor, whose songs include The Day The World Went Away and The Four Of Us Are Dying, did make sure some tickets to Saturday's Soundwave Festival found their way to Punt Road.

Random Ben Cousins sighting

JUST so Cuzzy doesn't feel left out, an eagle-eyed reader reports that he was spotted "out on the town" on Sunday evening — in Krispy Kreme on Collins Street. No confirmation as to whether he purchased a doughnut.
