Full Sash or Half Sash?
« on: March 04, 2009, 08:04:02 PM »
Stepping on sacred ground here but this full sash/half sash question was asked by a Richmond diehard in Inside Football.

Your Thoughts?

Sack the sash

Dear Jim
Although I am a Richmond diehard and love tradition, I loved the new Tiger outfit worn against Collingwood in their NAB Cup match. The tiger logo on the front looked terrific and so did the I plain black back. This made it very easy to read the numbers and I just cannot understand why the Tigers reverted to wearing the sash across the back. What do you think?

David Milton, Via email, New Gisborne, Vic.

JIM MAIN SAYS:
I thought they looked great. The traditional sash across the back makes the usual Tiger guernsey a mess.

The full sash is the way to go in my view.
All these other guernseys are great also but I feel that trying to recognise the number on the back of the yellow sash on the back is a myth. For years we were able to recognise it back in the 70's and 80's and even early 90's before we reverted to no sash on the back in 1995 and this was in the era of muddy grounds and obstructed views of the numbers due to mud and colour clashes at a time when changing the guernsey was sacrasanct.

There are so many guernseys now the white training guernsey with the claw marks our nab cup guernsey our predominantely yellow away guernsey and our home traditional one. All great but once the real stuff starts we need to get back to playing in our traditional one.

Full sash.

Once they put the thick black outline around the edge of the numbers it was fine. I noticed in the family day videos they had no black outline so I don't know if they did this just for show or if we are going have just the plain white numbers this year (?).

Full sash

David Milton and Jim Main obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

Hated the tigers head, too big, makes it look like a costume for a 3 year old.

Hate the plain back. reminds me of the horrible era of the late '90s early '00s.

Half sash for me.

Just think it looks better. Numbers look better, the back isn't a jumble.

Full Sash for mind! Wasnt the half sash sacked in favour for the full as it bought the club bad luck a few years back?

Correct

Personally I prefer the full sash

But if a sponsor came along and said give the me back of the jumper, remove the sash and I'll double the $$$ then you'd be mad not to consider it  ;D
