Didn't want start a new thread for this but Jack is another Tiger helping out a Aussie athlete....Jack had a hammerMartin Boulton | March 20, 2009
THE season opener between Carlton and Richmond, plus the much-anticipated showdown between former West Coast teammates Chris Judd and Ben Cousins, is less than a week away, but, in the frenzied build-up, Tigers forward Jack Riewoldt has been busy beyond the sphere of football.
Now in his third season at Tigerland, Riewoldt had a former life as a junior athlete specialising in discus and hammer throwing and he has been happy to offer encouragement to promising discus thrower and shot-putter Kim Mulhall, 18, who is competing at this week's Australian championships in Brisbane.
Mulhall, above, who won the Victorian championships in the disciplines last year, is working towards a spot on the Australian Olympic team for London 2012.
Recently, she has been dropping into Punt Road to chat with Riewoldt.
"He's a really nice guy and it's good to watch those boys train and gain some knowledge from other sports, as well as my own," she told Sporting Life.
"He's really interested in what I'm doing and I'll head back to the club in future when I get a chance."
Mulhall, who tasted victory in the discus as a 15-year-old at the Australian athletics championships, said her training ahead of the national championships had been ideal.
"Hopefully I can get some PBs out, which would be great," she said.
