The problem Jacko is that Wayne Campbell has never come across as a hardened individual with leadership abilities to the point where he could lead the cavalry to success.

Ramps.
Johnson and Bowden last year.

My view of this is that 1 of the 2 should have gone last year, now this may seem abit extreme, but Id pay them out now and open up a couple of spots in the team starting now.

Campbell is also seen by our supporters as a person who was part of pretty unsuccessful era in our clubs history.

You could same the exact same for Tom Hafey, he played in one of richmonds most unsuccessfull areas, and he became the coach we all know.

Thats also true, but from reading club forums, it seems that the faithful want either a Matthews or Hardwick.

Not at all Jack, but we don't want to make hasty decisions based on one night though do we?
Cambo might be a great choice years down the track, but he may also not be.
So you weigh up what's best for the club.
If Wallace doesn't work out after 8 weeks or so, do we go for the best coach available or an unknown?
Given the history of our club, do we want to crucify another former champion of this club just so you can say, I told you so?

Clarkson may not have won a premiership as a player, but he was senior coach of a VFL premiership side and was assistant coach at an AFL premiership side.

Ratten was an AFL premiership player, but also hasn't won anything yet as a coach, even Grant Thomas could coach a side full of #1 draft picks into the finals.

Campbell has never been involved in ultimate success. How can you coach a side to a premiership if you've never even seen one at any level. He took a year out of the game after retirement and has been at the Bulldogs (who have just been making up the numbers in the 8 ) as an assistant coach. The guy has only seen finals in 3 years of his entire career (2 years @ Richmond, 1 @ Bulldogs)

If we were go for a rookie coach then Hardwick fits all the criteria, dual AFL premiership player & premiership AFL assistant coach. He's also a backman if you compare him to the positions played by most recent premiership coaches he fits that criteria too.
