Nathan Foley is shattered as he leaves the MCG after the loss to Melbourne
RICHMOND'S general manager of football Craig Cameron expects coach Terry Wallace to keep his job despite the club's 0-4 start to the season.
The Tigers came into the year with high expectations, with many pundits tipping them to play finals for just the third time in nearly three decades.
But losses to Carlton, Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and Sunday's upset defeat by Melbourne has doused those hopes.
Wallace has won 35 matches from 92 as Richmond coach and he looked tired and drawn in the post-match media conference.
But Cameron backed the 50-year-old to continue.
"We're not going to speculate on Terry publicly," Cameron said after the eight-point loss.
"I don't think it's fair on him or his family, and it's not fair on the football club, so we're just not going to do it.
"I'm pretty confident that Terry will coach next week, yes."
President Gary March missed the match and was at a close friend's wedding on the Gold Coast.
But Cameron said he didn't expect anything dramatic to occur when he talked to Wallace and March in their regular post-match debrief.
"As Terry said in his press conference, he's asked the team to fight in the second half, and he's going to do exactly the same thing," Cameron said.
"I think Terry can coach. I think he's a good coach.
"I think the second half of the game today showed that the players still play for him.
"They came from six goals down just after half-time, and outscored the opposition in the second half.
"If they didn't have the confidence in him, the game could have completely dropped away.
"What we need to do is to try and get some confidence back and win some games of football."
