It's not too late, says Richo

DESPITE four losses from its first four games, Richmond veteran Matthew Richardson says his club isn't writing its season off.

The Tigers fell to Melbourne on Sunday, prompting speculation about coach Terry Wallace's future and the fate of his side's 2009 campaign.

Richardson said that with at least 18 weeks to play in the season his teammates couldn't be thinking of "doom and gloom".

"We've got to get out there this week and try and get a result and get the ball rolling," he said.

"Once the ball gets rolling I think some of our players will gain some confidence and I'm sure we can turn things around."

Confidence seems to be one of the Tigers' bigger hurdles and Richardson was quick to identify the mental struggle.

"There have been periods in the last three weeks where we've been right in the game," he said. "Half the game against Geelong, half the game against the Bulldogs and in three quarters against Melbourne we outscored them. Then we had one quarter where we got totally blown away.

"As soon as something goes wrong, or the other team kicks two or three goals, we seem to go back into our shells. We start playing safe footy, missing obvious targets, and it just snowballs from there."

However, Richardson said the ability of Richmond's list wasn't holding it back from improvement and claiming elusive victories.

"The only way to get out of it now is to work hard and continue to believe in yourself," he said.

"We do have belief among the playing group. We’ve got some good players, I believe in them and I'm sure they believe in all their teammates as well."

More threads based on positive news :thumbsup Keep them coming! Im with Richo, we have a lot to gain from a win as momentum is very important in this game. I felt that we turned the corner a bit on Sunday when Richo went forward and we kicked long to him. Joel has found form and we know his form lasts a while. Rance was good, Jack got better as the game went on, Jordy got it heaps, Lukey and Kel went forward and kicked goals. Gus is improving, Nahas is dangerous around goals, Shultz kicked 7, there is light at the end of the tunnel and i dont think it is a train :gotigers

I wouldn't call Joel's game finding form. He's a one trick pony and didn't have an opponent all day.

you keep saying that Imfamy but the fact is Joel aint going nowhere but to 300 games. He has no plans to retire & if his contract is not renewed he will go to another club & l'm afraid Joel is one player that can cause damage at a critical time. He has proven himself endless times  ;D

u r a loser

joel had 25 odd handball receives, that means he ran his guts ouit to make play

he had a hand in i think 10 of our goals setting them up

he also carried the ball a whopping 1150mtrs, over double the next best in the game and the most of anyone in the round

just accept it, joel is a valued player

FACT: We've been crap the entire time Joel has played in defence
FACT: We lost to the reigning wooden spooners playing him loose in defence, the opposition coach didn't even bother putting an opponent on him, knowing that he's not a damaging player
FACT: He's crap everywhere else on the ground, he only knows how to play unaccountable football

hahaha Bowden really gets under your skin, Fact is, Wallace made the call playing Joel loose in defence & not the opposition coach letting him play loose.
otherwise as Wallace has said before Bowden wouldnot be playing defence & if he played that type of game & it was not ordered by the coach he be on the pine & out the next week.
Clam up Imfamy Bowden played well but thats not saying l liked what l saw. l hate that style of football & prefer fast flowing football with long kicking to our forwards which everytime they do it, it comes off only to have Richo missing goals which kills moral. Until we get a strong marking fast leading deadeye idiot we are doomed with Richo down there & nothing ever going to change.
if l was coach l would have Vickery in that side today & leave him down there all game just to break him in. He might be young but thats what we need height. If we went in big against the kangaroos this week l'm sure we come out on top, + Simmonds must be dropped so its time they used some brains down there & play the young draftees

Bowden is shyte.

It'd be nice if the players could stay of the drink and maybe train abit harder rather than dishing up this crap every week and then making bollock 'we can win' statements in the news.

Bowden was best afield for Richmond last week so that means the rest of the team is poo also.
