We already have Deledio & Cotchin, we only need a key forward now. Hopefully Riewoldt will be that forward, but would be good if one of Vickery, Post, Putt & Gourdis step up and become a strong forward presence for us. It'll take time though.

Deledio should be that, Cotchin will be that.

But I get what your saying.

They don't grow on trees and they wouldn't come cheap if they did.
Pav will be past it by the time he even thinks of coming to a Vic side.

We have gone too small too often when recruiting lately. Last year wasn't too bad, but will take a while for a few of these boys.
Vickery looks good but is young and raw.
BrownE is a monster and if he has any ability at all only (19) may just be a good catch.
Need to keep working down this path and have patience, if we have any left that is.

what 5 years wasn't enough for Mr Solarium???

everyone in the football world knew Richo was retiring soon so why the hell didn't Mr tax start planning for his departure 5 years ago.

2004 - Adam Pattison & Luke McGuane were both drafted as forwards
2005 - Cleve Hughes
2006 - Jack Riewoldt
2007 - Dean Putt & David Gourdis
2008 - Tyrony Vickery & Jayden Post

How many forwards should we have drafted in 5 years?

Patto is a ruckman. I dont think he will ever be mobile enough to be a tall forward. McGaune is a backman.

Hughes is playing 3rds. Not looking good.

Putt was a long term project bean ruckman. Gourdis was a rookie, we delisted that cannot kick.

Vickery is 18 yoa and looks more a ruckman (ie. cannot mark @ Coburg.) Post played as a CHB as a overage kid.

We only have Jack really, who is only 20 still.

We missed out on a proper highly rated key forward cause we did not tank when we should have.

Both you and daniel completely missed the point. They were all DRAFTED as forwards, how they turned out is another thing all together. 3 of them were drafted with first round picks, one of them was drafted as a 2nd round pick.

I don't think we need what the topic of this is saying.
I think we need those onfeild to play as a team and we should be in a better place.
It, from what I have seen we have too many individuals playing to make themselves look good, and this is taking away from what this game is all about, team work.
Just my opinion though.

I agree with you bushranger regarding the teamwork but this is very typical when you have so many young players all coming up together and all fighting amongst each other to cement spots in the side. There is a lack of teammanship because their is few of the team that stay in the team for long periods and those that have are always looking over their shoulders, worried about keeping their spots.

This will change as soon as players start to first secure their place in the side and second, when they play together for an extended period. Leaders should then emerge too which we sorely need.

The coaches can demand players to be unselfish and do the 1% but only if that is valued more in retaining their places than possessions and the more 'flasher' acts.

I think Cotchin will become our 'marque player' but if Jack can step up he has the personality to win a lot of praise, recognisition and media attention.

One of the most educated posts I've ever read. Well said.

Happens in any sport, at any level when it comes to youthful sides and when selection is at stake. It all goes back to the mental side of things.

Worrying less about being selected next week, which doubts ability loses confidence etc and more Confident in ability to keep spot and play well injects passion an desire = Success.
Go Tigers!

i wonder if everyone is still not willing to take the risk with Vickery now or you are happy to stick with the tried and failed duo in Petts and Schulz

Deledio should be that, Cotchin will be that.

spot on
cotchin will embarrass deledio in years to come because he has a better work ethic during a game and a much hungrier desire to win and be the best

Thanks for the compliment Popelord  :thumbsup

I would like to see Vickery in the forwardline sometime this year but the reports from the Coburg games regarding his marking is a bit worrying. Regardless I feel he is too raw and undeveloped to hold down the Full Forward position this year so I believe Schulz should be given another crack at the spot and if he fails to achieve here yet again (say 3 games only), then possibly give Simmonds or even GUS (going on last weeks form) at try.

Vickery is being groomed for the mobile ruckman role but if BrownE and GUS also claim the roles in the future he or Gus may need to be developed as a forward where our greatest need is at the moment.
