Devastated Cousins backs Tigers to bounce back

Carlton's Chris Judd makes a grab for Richmond's Ben Cousins.

Ben is convinced his team will win ... eventually.

Ben Cousins is still convinced his new side can make a run towards September, saying Richmond is on the verge of a winning not just one game but a string of them.

Coach Terry Wallace's prospects plunged further into the mire yesterday, after his team threw away the chance for their second win of the season by allowing Port forward Warren Tredrea to dominate from start to finish.

The Power star kicked his seventh goal in the final minute to edge his side home by three points - a result that left Cousins devastated.

"It is not a relapse, but I can assure you I am nursing a broken heart. Shattered," Cousins said.

"To not play out the game in the right tempo, by slowing it down and not allowing Port back into the tie - that was a must.

"For us as a group the best way to learn that is to go through the gut wrenching feelings of that.

"But there is no doubt that soon we are going to get on a roll and win two three four games in a row, we are a good enough side to do it."

Cousins' own performance was by far his best since returning from his AFL-imposed suspension, gathering 24 possessions - 10 of them contested - and he said despite the disappointment, the whole team could take some encouragement.

"As early as Monday morning we can take some positives out of the game, because other than the last three minutes of the game I thought we played enormous," Cousins told Nova100 in Melbourne.

"We played a top four game away, we were down early we fought back - there are some huge positives to come out of the game."

RFC saying (hoping) it's only 1 week

=====================================

Cousins to miss Dreamtime match

Ben Cousins will miss this week's match against Essendon.

Ben Cousins will undergo minor surgery later today to repair a spiral fracture in the metacarpal bone of his left hand.

The injury was sustained in the opening minutes of Richmond’s loss to Port Adelaide yesterday.

“It was an extraordinary effort for Ben to play out the remainder of the match after being hurt so early,” Richmond Football Operations Manager Ross Monaghan said.

“We are hopeful he will only be out for one match.”

Cousins went on to collect 24 possessions (including 10 contested) and was among the Tigers’ best players.

Cousins was playing his second game in the seniors since returning from a hamstring injury sustained in round one.

Richmond suffered no other injury concerns from the Port Adelaide match.

Actually noticed he grabbed his hand after a centre clearance

At the time I thought he'd dislocated a finger

Saw him on the plan last night and he had his hand bandaged up

Could be a chance for Thomson to play.  :-\

Hope he returns quickly because we need his leadership and example.

If anyone believes that, I have a bridge for sale, goes from Melbourne to Footscray. Cash only.

Yep that's the one WP. They showed it on Ch 10 news tonight. It looked quite innocuous but he came out of the contest in the centre shaking and grabbing his left hand. Cuz played most of the game with the break as it was done early on.

Hislop was also very good for Coburg on the weekend so he would be right up there for a game also.
