Should we look to the draft or should we look to finals??
« on: May 19, 2009, 09:19:38 AM »
I just looking at our run home for the season and think that, unbelievably, we still have a remote chance of making finals. The question is - do we want to?

How many of these do you believe we have a good chance of winning if we played like we did against Port?

Essendon
Fremantle
Western Bulldogs
West Coast
St Kilda
Adelaide
Carlton
North Melbourne
Essendon
Melbourne
Sydney
Collingwood
Hawthorn
West Coast

Incredibly, out of the remaining 14 games we could realistically win 11 of them and make the finals!!! The only teams I would say we would struggle with is St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Carlton and possibly Hawthorn.

But is it worth the risk of winning 10 of the games and finishing 9th or 10th again?

I think we will struggle with a lot more than the 4 games you mention, but....

Option 3 for me.

I want to see the future and don't think we lose much by leaving out the likes of Bowden and Simmo.

But the kids would be raring to go and developing a winning mentality is just as important as developing skills. Telling the young fellas that a loss is OK in the long run is seriously dangerous IMO. They should be trying to win every game and hurting with every loss.

Drop most of the seniors for sure
No use playing Bowden, Simmonds & Johnson anymore

I think Brown deserves to play after his game last week but probably won't go on next year
Cousins should take the time off to get his hand healed properly, but with the knowledge that he'll play next year
Richo needs to get back on the park first

St. Kilda would be the only team I couldn't possibly see us beating, but i'm not saying we'd win the other 13.

I thought that Bowden was close to our worse player due to the fact that he is so unaccountable when he plays.
He leaves his player too much and this is where we failed on Sunday.
Thought is was good to see us playing more like a team.
And the same fact I think what I saw was that we are still missing the mark most of the time.
We did need a Richo or Jack up front. If we had one of them it would have been different.
And to fact that the ups gave away 3 goals to them, 2 in the 1st quarter and the next in the 2nd.
So it would have been a different outcome for us.
I was peed off that we lost but happy to see them play as a team.

Draft option for me too.

If we had won on the weekend then we still would've had a chance as a win over Essendon would've put us just a game out. However we didn't win and with Cuz breaking his hand and Richo gone for the year it's turned into one of those years where nothing is going right. At 1-7 and with our low % we would need to win 12 of the remaining 14 games to make the Eight. It ain't going to happen. Play the kids to give them experience and plan for 2010 and beyond. Our forward line needs talls and that can only be done via early in the draft.

I'm pretty sure that i heard the other day that if neither Geelong or St Kilda drop a game until Round 14 when they eventually meet each other then 4th spot could be claimed by a club with only 13 wins on the board  :o

Im not sure how correct this is as i think i remember Hutchy stating this on Footy Classified Monday night. ::)
So i would imagine 2009 may be a year when 11+ wins should be enough for a top 8 finish.

my heart wants Richmond to make the eight.

draft picks, honestly 'people' any player we draft could turn 'great' or 'poor'!

we need a 'winning culture!'

win as many matches as possible.

i am really sick of loosing! really, because if we lose against the 'over-rates!' (Essendon) i will cry! lol!

i hate 'the over-rates!' like just kill them! smash them Richmond!
