Will we promote another rookie next week?
« on: June 04, 2009, 02:58:22 AM »
With Nahas promoted to the senior list with Richo on the LTIL, we'll be able to promote another rookie next Monday if we wish to.

Do you think we will and if so who?

---------------------------------------------------
AFL allows clubs a second rookie list player
Jon Ralph | June 04, 2009

THE size of AFL primary lists will increase by one player on Monday, with clubs able to elevate one of their rookies.

As part of the compensation for Gold Coast's draft choices, all clubs were given the opportunity to list two extra rookies this year and next.

To allow teams to make use of the extra rookies, all clubs can automatically elevate a rookie after Round 11.

Normally clubs must drop a senior player to the long-term injury list to allow a rookie senior action, but the replacement must return to the rookie list when the listed player is fit.

Some clubs do not have two veterans so may nominate a rookie in the pre-season, allowing him to play senior football for the year.

The ruling will allow some clubs to elevate players, and give some promoted rookies the chance to continue playing.

Geelong has rookie ruckman Shane Mumford playing regularly in the AFL, while West Coast was forced to push back rookie Adam Cockie last week when draftee Luke Shuey returned from groin soreness.

Port Adelaide could elevate former Tiger Danny Meyer, who missed out when the club chose pacy forward Wade Thompson as its nominated rookie in the pre-season.

Carlton has enjoyed stunning success this year with its rookie list, with Aaron Joseph, Jeff Garlett , Greg Bentley and Sam Jacobs playing senior football.

Bentley has been pushed back to the rookie now Adam Bentick has recovered from injury, so could be a contender for elevation again.

I wouldn't mind having Silvestor promoted and playing as a tall backman.

People may say we would be too tall with Moore, Rance, McGuane and Silvestor, but I think Rance is quick and can play big or small.  Also McGuane's game has improved this year and I think he could play further up the field.

Might as well see the big cat in action before he has to be cut (if he isnt promoted).

To play on the Backline in KP

In place of.... probably a very out of form Thursfield or dare I say it Bowden J?

Might as well see the big cat in action before he has to be cut (if he isnt promoted).

Exactly Chuck - might as well see if he is good enough - nothing to lose, lots to gain....

Hmmmm I was under the impression that people wanted to play as many blokes as we could...  and TANK  ;D

Finally, if you are basing a promotion solely on form then Silvestor deserves ahead of the others

you dared you silly woman  ;D

Joel Bowden kills Silvester at all levels of skill & endurance at his age now
Silvester is a VFL player & will never play another AFL game ever again, he cant even control the VFL backline even though they do have some great forwards in the VFL but NO

David Gourdis is the rookie you must promote overwise its worthless bringing him over here & we will just blood another good player for clubs like West Coast & Freo when he gets tired of being shafted at Tigerland he wanna go back home. His already played senior football at WAFL so give him the chance IMO  ;D we deflate young players too often at RFC & they lose interest

Thursfield needs to be played at all cost his not 100% this year but when fit his our best backmen along with McGuane & Moore who is also playing injured

I agree with WP here, we should promote Silvester. This is his last chance at playing AFL football as after this year we can no longer have him on the rookie list. Gourdis on the other had still has another 2 years he could remain there.

Playing Silvester could allow us to see if McGuane could hold down a forward position which is what he was drafted as to our club initially.

I would also like to see one or more of Brown, Bowden, Simmonds or Johnson (again) be placed on the LTIL (use a bat in the changerooms if you have too  :P) so both Gourdis and Gilligan get a gig in the seniors.

Would help our draft cause too.... ;)

Gourdis or Browne.

Drop Simmo for the rest of the year and give Browne a go or give Gourdis a go in our midget forward line.

I reckon Silvestor would be a waste, get a gig in seniors, have his lack of speed exploited and he'd go back to Coburg for the rest of the year.
And you may not think I care for you

Me too, however if we elevate Sylvestor we could get Moore the surgury he needs to get his shoulder right for next year, or at least rest him

Apparently, and those who regularly attend Burger games can back me up here, his speed is one area of his game he has seemed to improve this year playing for Coburg.
