Terry Wallace's quiet on coachDaryl Timms and Jim Wilson | June 05, 2009
TERRY Wallace has said the appointment of a caretaker coach would leave one of the other Richmond assistants "broken-hearted".
Wallace has not told the Tigers who he believes should take charge of the team for the rest of the season.
Wallace also reveals in an interview with Channel 7's Bruce McAvaney that will air during tonight's Richmond and Western Bulldogs clash that he sought assistance from Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse during the season.
Wallace played under Malthouse at the Bulldogs.
Richmond is due to announce tomorrow which member of its coaching staff - Jade Rawlings, David King, Craig McRae, Wayne Campbell or Brian Royal - will coach out the season.
Wallace said if he had recommended one of the coaches it would damage the relationship he has had with all of them.
"They (Tiger assistants) all have that ambition and somebody is going to be absolutely rapt to take on the reins and there will be a few disappointed people," Wallace said.
Sydney coach Paul Roos, arguably the game's most successful caretaker coach, said the interim Richmond coach would face enormous pressure.
"The options are black and white as a caretaker coach. If you take the gig you have to be successful or face the grim reality that you'll never get another coaching job," Roos said.
Roos said whoever takes charge can't make wholesale changes to the Tiger game plan.
"The successful candidate will have to embrace Terry's game plan because to tinker with that now is fraught with danger," Roos said.
