Richmond's Gary March says processes were "not great" picking Terry Wallace
By Roger Vaughan | June 06, 2009

Richmond president Gary March has admitted some of the Tigers' processes were "not great" when they chose Terry Wallace as coach.

Nearly five years after Wallace arrived at Punt Rd and one day after his tenure ended in failure, March said he was "not sure'' that all of the board at the time had a hand in the decision.

March was a board member under then-president Clinton Casey when Richmond gave Wallace a five-year contract in late 2004.

Wallace resigned on Monday and coached the team for the last time on Friday night, when the Western Bulldogs thrashed them by 68 points.

Richmond have not made the finals since 2001 and the best results under Wallace were ninth in 2006 and last season.

They have just two wins from 11 games this season.

"I don't think our processes were great, I've got to be honest about that - the processes we went through to appoint the coach back there probably weren't great,'' March said.

"I'm not sure all the board were involved in that decision, but rest assured in the last two or three years we've gone through correct processes in everything we've done, in all our appointments.

``We went through an exhaustive process to replace (football director) Greg Miller, we've gone through a really good process to select a caretaker coach and we've got a really good process in place for selecting a senior coach in 2010."

There has been only one change to the Richmond board since 2005, but March sees that as a positive.

He adds while the football team continues to struggle, off the field the Tigers have made big improvements.

"This year we're heading to a seven-figure profit ... we've turned the business around,'' March said.

"We haven't got the football part of it right, but we've made a lot of changes in the last 12 months and I expect to make a number more this year.

"It's actually been healthy to have a stable board to put all of those things in place.''

Meanwhile, March said Tigers veteran Matthew Richardson was training well after his hamstring surgery and should return to the senior team well before the end of the season.

Happy to state that I didn't vote for the Casey ticket - and I certainly didn't vote for Greg Miller to be a board member.

Me too.  But having said that, I think the board have done a very good job at turning the ship around off-field.  And that had to be done first before we had any chance of fixing on-field.

Anyone that is prepared to speak to Wacko Jacko should be shot on the spot.
It really says something about the quality of the people who are running the club.
It's that simple Spud

Where did I say you were being blamed for anything?

You're like an infant with a gun, someone else loads the gun (sends out the rumour) you just pull the trigger(posts it and probably tells whoever will listen).
Most people who post on this forum despise the leaks, the information getting out into the public.
You are proof that it happens.
When we fix the leaks, you won't post those "famous rumours".
And when that happens, people won't feed your ego by asking who will be our next president.
That's my problem. :thumbsup

Mate, what do you want to know and I will tell you. :banghead
You have to realise something, all players from each club talk.
The Mitch Morton thing was common knowledge 1 hour after it happened
Blame the players , dont blame me, I am last to know ;)
Common knowledge about the Rawlings as caretaker as well. Beleive what you want in life, its afree world.
and furthermore if i want to pass knowledge on a public forum, i will
I dont hide behind the keyboard like you.
Might further add that the rot started with wallace the day he  sacked Gaspar, that was the beginning of the end for him. And then burn Chubber :banghead :banghead

Let me say this Big Jack - I don't NEED to know anything, this is a forum - people's opinion and insight on matters football is why I come on to this site.
All the crap off field is only relevant for gossip and scuttlebutt.
Players talk, board members talk sure but why is it that our talk ends up in newspapers and fan forums like "OER"?
Its because there is too much talk to loose people like yourself.
Like I said, you are not the problem - you're just a plaything for people who have access to information about our club.
I can only blame you for having a big mouth - it's the others who fill it that I find unprofessional and damaging to Tigerland.
I would have no problem telling this to your face if it was going to make a difference but it won't.
It is ironic that you assert that you "should never burn people".
Jack, the next time you are in Pilates class think about this -
Every time you post a rumour about our club or the people who work in it - right or wrong - you are burning someone Jack.

We as members vote for who is on the Board but the Board chooses the President.

We're the Bernie Madoff of the AFL  :lol

Seriously that is fantastic news. Obviously getting Benny had a lot to do with it and the preseason hype but well done RFC in this economic climate :clapping.

The 2010 revenue will take a $400k hit straight off compared to this year though as our GC "home" game (as well as Carlton's and Saints') has been cancelled.
