Lids has signed up. A high finish won't entice him to stay now. However a much lower finish in the B & F in a poor season for the club will be enough ammo for Dimma to rub it in Lids face and get him motivated for next year and beyond. Especially if a bloke who can boot the ball 60 metres but more often than not kicks it half that distance and straight to the opposition frequently as well will get to take Jack home hanging around his neck.

True but I was more saying "no Lids" from a MVP point of view rather than the B&F. The MVP nominations are voted on by his teammates and they didn't have Lids in their top 3 at Punt Rd. That may sting over summer as well.

In the Army the main difference between a good officer and a poor officer was respect - good ones earned it, poor ones demanded it.  Same issue here - Deledio will get the respect that counts (peers) when he earns it.

Brett Deledio’s strong finish to the season has given him a big chance of becoming the youngest Richmond winner of back-to-back Best and Fairest awards since Kevin Bartlett in 1967-68, and the youngest in the entire AFL competition since Michael Voss, at Brisbane, in 1995-96.
 
Deledio, who captured his first Jack Dyer Medal in 2008, is 22 years and five months old. Bartlett, one of five Richmond ‘Immortals’, was 21 years and seven months of age when he won the second in-a-row of his eventual five Tiger Best and Fairests in ‘67-68. Voss, a triple Brisbane premiership captain, was 21 years and three months old when he completed the back-to-back Best and Fairest feat in ‘95-96. He went on to win a further three Best and Fairests during his time at Brisbane.
 
A second successive Best and Fairest for Deledio would be a significant achievement – particularly when you consider how close he was to being demoted to Richmond’s VFL affiliate Coburg midway through the year.
 
“I had weaknesses that needed addressing and if I didn’t address them I would have been representing Coburg,” Deledio said in a candid interview with the Herald-Sun recently.
 
“I just wasn’t being accountable.
 
“Jade (Rawlings) said if I wasn’t prepared to do it, I would be out of the side, and I very nearly was.
 
“I guess it was the kick up the arse I needed . . .”
 
Deledio, who committed to a new three-year deal at Richmond this week, averaged 22.5 possessions per game from Round 1-11. That average jumped to 26 possessions per game during the second half of the season.
 
To further underline Deledio’s major improvement in all aspects of his game as the year wore on, he had 28 tackles in the first half of the season compared to 50 in the second half.
 
The main challenger to Deledio’s bid for back-to-back Jack Dyer Medal wins almost certainly will be Daniel Jackson, who enjoyed his best season since making his AFL debut with the Tigers in 2004 in the role of a ‘run-with’ midfielder.
 
Jackson averaged 11.9 possessions per game up until this year, but in the 2009 season, his average possessions per game shot up to 23. And, he played all 22 games, which will further enhance his Dyer Medal prospects.
 
Ben Cousins also is bound to figure prominently throughout this year’s Best and Fairest count, which will be held at Crown Palladium from 7pm on Wednesday, September 16.
 
Although the veteran champion missed seven matches through injury in his debut season for Richmond, he averaged 23.9 possessions per game in his 15 appearances, which was slightly above his overall AFL career average of 22.4 heading into 2009. A top-five finish appears likely for the ex-Eagle.

The 2009 Jack Dyer Medal is fast approaching - limited seats remaining!

Richmond fans will have an opportunity to hear from Damien Hardwick for the first time as senior coach when the 2009 Jack Dyer Medal is staged next Wednesday September 16.

Hardwick will be one of the feature acts of the Best and Fairest evening, one of the marquee events on the club calendar.

The Tigers will unveil the 95th winner of the Jack Dyer Medal on the night, as well as several individual awards highlighting the on and off-field achievements from the 2009 season.

Tiger fans will also get a chance to farewell some departing legends of Punt Road Oval, including Joel Bowden, Kane Johnson, Nathan Brown and Mark Coughlan.
