Not sure how King and Cogs were named in the bests. Only Joel and Silvester were decent for mine of the RFC boys. In defence of Sarge it must have been a nightmare playing forward today the way the ball was and wasn't coming into Coburg's forward line. Everytime a Coburg player had the ball they looked to go short either by hand or foot even when we had the breeze. It just played into Port Melbourne's hands. At least Joel kicked long more often than not and Silvester at least beat his direct opponent which was good effort given how easily the ball was coming into the Port's forward line.

I thought our match-ups and positioning of our players was awful as well as the gamestyle. McRae had a shocker for his first day in the coaches' box. It didn't start well before the game for him either when he told Cleary when interviewed he doesn't talk about winning it's more about the process. :P.

Both not on the radar Magic. Apart from stoppages they haven't been sighted.

Ta Cyclops. Doesn't bode well for either. :-\

Sounds like the midfield has been smashed.
3rd round pick for Thomson. Compare that to Essendon getting Prismall for the same price. Dumb recruiting is why we are where we are  :banghead.

Clarke gets his 3rd goal. 52 - 102

Thomson isnt up to VFL standard,

Coburg Tigers beaten by 45 points in VFL
Adrian Ballantyne | June 20, 2009 04:30pm

RICHMOND'S axed veterans were on the end of an embarrassing loss after suiting up for the Tigers' VFL side this afternoon.

Senior players Joel Bowden, Mark Coughlan and Jordan McMahon were all part of the Coburg Tigers’ 45-point loss, while other AFL regulars Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Jake King and Jay Schulz also played.

Most were dropped from Richmond's senior side after coach Terry Wallace stepped down a fortnight ago and interim replacement Jade Rawlings opted for youth over experience.

Coburg were never really in the game despite the importance of the match, with both sides locked in a seven-way battle for second, third and fourth spots on the ladder.

Port will now leapfrog Coburg into fourth after winning 18.14 (122) to 12.5 (77) at TEAC Oval.

The Tigers kicked just one goal in the opening term and trailed by 19 points at the first break.

Port’s forwards were well on top in the second quarter, piling on six goals to three
to open up a 38-point lead.

Coburg kept its chances of an unlikely win alive, matching the home side’s three goals in the third quarter, but a Port goal inside the first 30 seconds of the final term snuffed out any chance of a comeback.

Most of Richmond's dumped players had games to forget.

Oakley-Nicholl's kicking let him down repeatedly, though King showed glimpses of the form that had him touted as one of the Tigers' great finds last year and Bowden was solid down back.

After being positive of the Thomson recruitment it saddens me to say it but he isnt an AFL standard player and we wasted a 3rd round pick. Today he was very average and no where near AFL standard.

I didnt want to start a new thread but the association with Coburg is not working and IMHO it should be stopped because Im of the view that its hindering the development of our players. Our VFL side should be called Craigieburn RFC Tigers or some name like that, they should wear Richmond colors and they should be based out at Craigieburn with as many RFC listed players as possible.

Would agree there Ramps
And with other clubs challenging alliances and even going back to having there own reserves, I think this is the only option.
Considering the Frankstons grant from the VFL is only $150,000. Surely and AFL club could support there own reserves team.
Interesting that Essendon are dropping Bendigo at years end for the exact reason, too hard to keep control of the  development of younger players, and they have had success of there younger players too.
Too many Richmond players have gone backwards at Coburg. Although it might be the fault of the players and not the process

with all the new found wealth they have there at Richmond (ie. the recruitment of Cousins), they should be spending every cent of that money on player development. IMHO I think this club is the worst in the league at development of players. :banghead
The club that keeps giving.

They were talking about this tonight regarding why Collingwood went it alone and dumped Willy. The Pies were sick of their younger players being forced to play VFL ressies to fit 10 VFL-based players from the affiliate club. The issue for poorer clubs is they were saying a stand alone club costs around $280k to run compared to $80k teaming up with an affiliate VFL club.

I don't think today though we can blame not having a stand alone VFL side for being flogged. It was probably the most mature side Coburg has had all year. The fault was moreso players not working hard enough nor doing the footy fundamentals plus a gameplan where players wanted to kick and handball 10m all the time. The reason why they got dropped to Coburg in the first place  ::). Port were far more desperate especially their forward line pressure and were simply better drilled and more direct.

That was evident from the day we recruited this hack.

This is what we know of this dud of a 3rd round pick in the strongest draft in years

Coudlnt get a game at Port when they were on the bottom a few years back.

cant get a game at our club and we currently sit second last...

What a farce our football club is and these are the type of decisions which need to stop
if we are to go anywhere north on the ladder.

Cameron if he was the one who was instrumental in recruiting Thompson, should be sacked immediately.

We seem to reward mediocrity at Punt Road time and time again.
