King, Rance and White to face Blues

By Mic Cullen 5:00 PM Thu 09 July, 2009

JAKE King is back in yellow and black.

The 25-year-old small defender, who last played for Richmond in the round-three loss to the Western Bulldogs, has forced his way back into the side on the back of impressive performances with Coburg in the VFL.

Joining him in the side to play Carlton at the MCG on Saturday are midfielder Matthew White and tall defender Alex Rance.

Two of the three omissions have been forced, with Nathan Foley (calf) and exciting youngster Andrew Collins (hip) both are expected to miss two to three weeks.

Jarrod Silvester has been dropped after two games in the seniors.

Football manager Ross Monaghan told richmondfc.com.au that King's form had demanded he be selected.

"Jake's been playing some really good footy with Coburg in the last few weeks, and deserves his opportunity," he said.

"Matthew's had one game back with Coburg after missing a number with a hamstring injury, and he showed some really good form last week, so he's back in.

"Also, Alex Rance is back in – he was a bit unfortunate to miss last week, and he's done everything right, as always."

This is the hardest week to be a pro-tanker after the round 1 debacle  :-\. I just hope in a couple of years time we bypass them as our list develops and giving up Josh Kennedy for Judd comes back to bite them. Even better if the Swans poach Fev up there.

Just out of curiosity just under half of this side wasn't in our 22 when we first played Carlton in round 1. That's a change of 9  :o

Out: Bowden, Browne, Brown, Foley, McMahon, Raines, Richardson, Schulz, Simmonds

In: Cotchin, Graham, Hislop, King, Nahas, Polo, Post, Rance, Vickery

EDWARDS  :banghead

I know, I know and I agree 100%, gee people talked about the relationship between McMahon and Wallace but sheesh the one between Rawlings and Edwards is a worry more so. At least wallace dropped MacMahon for playing like crap....... Edwards stays in????????

King should play forward or tagger if he must be in the team.

Not in the backline.  :-\

Make him accountable, play him on Betts.

As much as I think Edwards has been horribly exposed as deficient
I still agree with the yooth policy Jade has implemented and would rather Shane in the side and us losing/winning with the kids than bring in a Brown or Bowden who for all intents and purposes we will get the same result anyway.

Play the Kids.
I am sure if Edwards has another shocker he will go back to Coburg and Connors may come through. It is only the fourth game of 11 under Jade.

I dont see the harm in giving Edwards a game.

I agree with most that he has struggled this year but he did show enough promise in his first 2 years to persevere with.

You never know....he might be a 5th season wonder like Ritchie.

ooh please show him the door now RFC do us all a favour. Edwards is a glorified version of JON

this toothpick is a comedy act out there.

Late bloomber like Ritchie you say. We may have been wrong with Ritchie but geez tooth pick skinny players like Edwards should have no place in our team.

Connors or even that other useless fool Thompson should be played ahead of this clown

Why isn't Thomson getting a go now that Foley needs to take a rest? Isn't he an inside midfielder? He must be stinking up the field playing for the Burgers to not have even made a team when youth is the main requirement for selection. A real concern really.

I would also like to see Gilligan, Gourdis, Hughes and Browne get a shot this year, for a few games. I'm sure Gilligan, Gourdis and Browne are still raw and far off a regular AFL gig but the taste will do them well and allow us to see if they are a glimmar of a chance for next year.

Daniel

At least Edwards has shown promise in his career 07 & 08....He has struggled this year.
JON never shown promise in the AFL

I would like to see Conners in the team ahead of Edwards too.Unfortunatly Conners has a reputation of being a selfish Show Pony who is wasting his talents......Maybe Edwards is the better of two evils....For the moment.

Agree....Where the hell is Thomson.Would love to see what we gave up pick 42 for.
