David King and Rohan Connolly on 3aw tonight
« on: July 17, 2009, 07:26:21 PM »
Did anyone else listen to 3aw tonight between 6-7pm with Connolly, King and co.?

Connolly mumbled something about a former premiership teammate of Kingy's whose name isn't probably getting a mention applying for the Richmond coaching job. King replied yep he (this former teammate) has.

Longmire hasn't apparently so who else would that be?
Anthony Rock?
John Blakey?
Laidley?

Could be John Blakey.

From his profile on the Swan's website

.... Debuted for Fitzroy in 1985 and went on to play 135 games in his eight seasons with the Lions before joining North in 1993. While he could play as a ruck-rover, half-forward or on the flanks, he was one of the club's best taggers.  He won two premierships (1996 & 1999) and two pre-season cups (1995 & 1998) with the Kangaroos, while he represented Victoria in the 1998 State of Origin.  In 2000 he came third in the club's best and fairest and showed no signs of his 35 years when he played all 22 games the following year before retiring at the end of 2002 having played 359 games.  In his first year of retirement he was lured to the Brisbane Lions by Leigh Matthews and tasted immediate success when the Lions won their third successive premiership in 2003. After four seasons with Brisbane he has moved south to join his ex-teammates in Paul Roos, John Longmire and Brett Allison as a Swans assistant coach in charge of the forwards .....

Blakey would be a surprise as he has a low profile. Mind you having Matthews and Roos as your coaching mentors won't look bad on your CV.
