Newman a Tiger for life

Richmond captain Chris Newman qualifies for Life Membership of the Club when he plays his 150th game, against Essendon at the MCG next Sunday.

Newman, 27, will become the 54th player in Richmond’s AFL/VFL history to achieve the 150-game milestone.

The first-year Tiger skipper has played 60 consecutive games, since returning from a severely broken leg, which he suffered against Collingwood in Round 13 of the 2006 season.

He averages 15.7 disposals per game throughout his league career, with a career-high 32, against St Kilda at the MCG in Round 22, 2007.

After being taken by Richmond with its fifth selection (No. 55 overall) in the 2000 National Draft (behind Kayne Pettifer, Mark Coughlan, Chris Hyde and Andrew Krakouer), Newman had to wait until Round 9, 2002 to make his senior debut with the Club. He lined up against St Kilda at Telstra Dome that day and had four kicks, two handballs, one mark and one tackle in the Tigers’ nine-point loss.

Since then, Newman has gone on to become one of Richmond’s most reliable performers.

Late last year, he was appointed the Club’s captain, replacing Kane Johnson, and he has displayed admirable leadership qualities throughout what’s been a tough on-field season for the Tigers.

I'm a Newy fan and I know others here aren't ( no names lol ) but I have to say he seems to be better value to the team with his kicking playing further up towards the middle of the ground as he has over the past couple of weeks. Congrats Newy on a win in your 150th  :clapping.

Well done Newy  :clapping

With Bowden out and our young kids in I always rest a bit easier when I see newy bringing it out of the backline as he usually delivers well
