THE career of Richmond half-forward Kayne Pettifer is at the crossroads after he suffered a suspected fractured right kneecap playing for Coburg in yesterday's VFL match against the Casey Scorpions.
Pettifer's right knee gave way on the boundary line late in the third quarter and he was carried from the ground.
Pettifer, 27, who has played 113 AFL games, returned to the Coburg side for yesterday's game after being sidelined for two weeks with a sore knee.
Coburg coach Craig McRae described Pettifer's injury as ``sickening''.
"It was right in front of the crowd and he was very distressed,'' McRae said.
The Tigers coach said it was particularly upsetting after a long summer recovery program to come back from a knee reconstruction.
"He is out of contract and I don't what the future holds,'' McRae said.
He said in a strange twist of fate, Pettifer's previous knee injury was sustained 12 months to the day.
